I watched something one time on Discovery Health or TLC one of the 2 anyway. About parents who homebirth and then leave the placenta attached to the baby until the whole thing dries up and falls off.

Supposedly it was to transition the baby gently into life. Apparetely the babies that do this are less fussy, nurse better and are very calm all the time.

While its a nice thought. I don't think could bring myself to do that. I think it would gross me out.

Not to mention you wouldn't really be able to dress the baby or anything.

That and I would worry about infection. Wouldn't there be a risk of that? I don't know.

Thoughts anyone.

Lotus birth it's called. You could google it. I believe Sasha was planning on having a lotus birth but didn't for some reason. I do not believe there is a risk of infection.

I researched it. It is too granola for me. I would be worried about infection, smell and general messiness.

see that is what I was thinking

She was planning on it, but IIRC, had problems with her placenta.

Anyways, I think go for it. If that is what you want. I'm not interested in doing it, but it doesn't creep me out.

This is correct. Seryozha's umbilical cord snapped from the placenta as he was born.

That still freaks me out a little bit.

Definately a good reason to say no I can't take the baby out right now. Wow Sasha...I had no clue the cord snapped like that. That would freak me out too!
