View Full Version : Making the switch... #2

Well, I cursed myself.... I said he wasn't doing this yet and he's now proving me wrong.

DS is almost 17 mos. and still in a crib.... not after tonight, though. He was upset about going to bed and tried to climb out of the crib. He pulled himself up to almost belly height and could have easily tumbled out if he hadn't been throwing a fit.

So, we're making the transition to a big boy bed! We have a convertible crib, though so luckily we won't have to buy a new bed.
Yay!

Any tips or advice? This is our first run with this!

Update:

This morning, I spent 3 hours rearranging his room and getting his crib converted to a daybed. DH told me he'd been climbing on the changing table- we've been using it as shelves for his toy bins and books- so that came out, too and goes in storage.

I do need new blinds now, though. We have the standard pull-string slatted blinds. I'm thinking about getting the roll-up curtain one... no cords and sturdier, I think.

I'm happy he's smart and figuring things out, but I was hoping to be able to wait until after Christmas to have to do all of this. LOL

why would you need new blinds?

He can just barely reach those now, too. The cords are dangerous. And the fastenings have got to be about 30 years old. If you pull on them just right (or at all) the whole fixture can come crashing down. Granny hasn't updated anything in this house since it was built. We've been doing it.... slowly.

if you hadn't mentioned that I would have said just tie the cords up so he can't reach them....but since you mentioned it (lol)....uh yea...get new blinds lol

LOL It's not a huge problem in the rest of the house. He's never in there alone. But in his room, and with him being able to get out of bed on his own... it got me worried.

haven't got a clue. I'll be watching this thread b/c I was wondering at what age should you transition the lo's to a bed if they've slept in a crib their whole life (lol) or is it just about when they are ready?

I think just when they're ready. I mean, I would have kept him in the crib another couple months, but he's to the point of climbing out...

On the bed rails... I found some mesh ones on the Target and WalMart sites... most are online only... none in-store. ugh. For tonight, I think I'll just lay some pillows on the floor next to his bed so if he rolls off, he'll land on something soft. Tomorrow, I'll go hunting for the rails and the new shades.

I intentionaly use a crib tent for my 2 year old ds. he loves his little happy place and I dont have to worry about him climbing out of the crib out of his room and falling down the stairs.

we have farm animals so I am often doing a few chores while he naps, I need to know beyond a dought that he cant hurt himself.
