So My husband and I decided to have a child she is now 2 1/2 months old.
I was supposed to go on the Depo shot, but for some reason my doctors office was making it a hassle, and I still have yet to get it.
I am breastfeeding but I have had 2 periods already.

So I am EXTREMELY fertile apparently.. Go figure it took forever to create my daughter. lol
Its been about 2-3 weeks since the last one. I had them a week apart..

I had a C section, would getting pregnant so soon cause problems?
It was an Emergency C section, and I did bleed out A LOT!

The only real reason I think it is because I all of a sudden got so moody like when I was pregnant. Im snapping at my husband and picking stupid fights like when I was pregnant.
Everything was going AWESOME until a couple days ago.

No it wont be the end of the world if Im pregnant, at least Im married.
But we had sex ONCE since my daughter was born..

I kind of dont want to say anything to him.. but I have no way to get a test without telling him.. ugh. guess I just needed to vent a bit.

If I was having such odd periods how do I know when to test anyway?

Is your only sign a missing period?

Periods can come and go while bfing. Also a lot of woman do some PP bledding at around 6 wks PP, which some woman confuse with a period.

Anyway, I would test now, if you get a negitive, wait a couple weeks and test agian.

I am 5 1/2 months pp and I still have not had a period. My bff is 3 1/2 months pp and she has had odd times where she spots and other times where she thought she was pregnant (and she had her tubes tied.) A missed period when you are so soon pp does not necessarily mean you are pregnant. Keep us posted when you get a test!

Your only sign is moodiness? I would not assume you're pregnant based only on that.

I would caution you about getting depo while breastfeeding - it can cause a reduction of milk supply. I would try a couple months of the mini pill first, and if there are no problems with milk supply, then get Depo after that.

I have issues with the pill I might as well just not do anything, because I tend to forget A LOT. I had a severe concussion when I was younger and it damaged my memory a bit.

Still No period, but Im going to give it a week and test its been over a month since the last period I had. I think just having them everyother week after I had her, i just thought it would continue to do that.

Remember that your hormones are as screwy as can due to nursing alone. That means weird periods and moments of moodiness even. Can you use condoms?

Depo isn't what I would recommend for birth control for a nursing mother. It can cause a loss of milk supply, and because the effects last so long, it's not easy to fix once it happens. That could be why your doctor's office is making it a hassle.

Your OB would probably recommend against getting pregnant so soon after a C-section, yes. If it happens, it happens- but if I were you, I'd prevent it, at least for six months. It would be best to give your body a solid chance to heal from abdominal surgery before starting another pregnancy. That's just common sense.

Also, if you get pregnant so soon, your milk supply is going to drop to a fraction of what your baby needs. You will have to supplement with formula, even if you continue nursing.

You really need to talk to your husband about this, so you can both decide what you want to do. I'm going to bet that your husband will be concerned about your health, and your recovery from the C-section. You had a pretty traumatic birth story, right? And you want to be sure that your baby gets a good solid start with the nursing. It just makes sense to take care of you both. Some condoms would buy you all some peace of mind for a while.

My OB was the one who told me to get the depo, as it has no effect on nursing.
We just wont have sex I guess. Because my doctor is screwing with me.. grrr. This is going to take a toll on our relationship, i just know it.. it already is.
I cant use condoms I have a latex allergy and I have tried the other ones, they just seem to break so easily.

Thank you all for your answers. Its good to know this before I actually got my next period, because Im supposed to get the depo then..

Can you set your alarm to take a pill at a certain time? How about having it at your bedside and taking it before bed or as soon as you wake up?

All you would need is a month or two of taking a progesterone ONLY (not combo or estrogen based) pill to see if it affects your milk production. If it doesn't, then you should be safe to get the Depo shot.

I would buy a HPT. First Response lets you know BEFORE your next period is supposed to show.

I can't take the pill or anything hormonal. I know its not for everyone but my IUD is great!

I have a latex allergy too, and hubby has to use Lambskin condoms. They are a little more expensive, but they work pretty well. Have you tried those?

We used to use the Lambskin condoms. They were completely and totally worth the money. We never had one break and they felt much nicer than the cheaper ones.

My OB gave me Depo before I was discharged from the hospital. I haven't had any BF issues. I think Depo is wonderful although it is not a good long term solution due to side effects.

Post partum+BF= crazy hormones! I had a similar scare when my period started. Just know that your post partum periods will be different from what they were before (for better or worse). Take a pregnancy test, limit standard intercourse until you get a regular cycle, then limit activity to when it is "safe". That is what I am doing and I take responsibility for the riskiness of it but I do not want to go on birthcontrol again! Also, sex was not particularly pleasurable for me until 10 months post partum. I had a 2nd degree tear/episiotomy and would have weird nerve pains so we figured out other ways to have fun together. The nerve pain made condoms particularly heinous!

I'm BFing off and on w/5 mnth old twins. Have had about two periods. Had a c-section but not emergency. Been doing it a lot and have tested a few times but not pregnant. I'm not on any birth control.

For some women, depo does not affect milk production. For some women, it really does. Unfortunately, you have no way of knowing if you're one of the unlucky ones until after you get the shot and it decreases your milk production. Since it takes 3 months to leave your system, that could effectively destroy your nursing relationship with your baby. That's why it's a good idea to exercise caution, and "test" your body's response to progesterone through the mini-pill first (which, if it does affect milk production, you can stop taking it and your supply will rebound in a couple days).

Since you're not using any birth control, just curious- are you trying to conceive?

Yes & No. Myself I would like to wait. Hubby definitely is.
