Can you take Pepto Bismol while pregnant? If not what can a 7 week pregnant person take. Oh and this is for my BF.

Pepto Bismol contains aspirin; I wouldn't take it. Kaopectate is pregnancy category B, which is safer.

I just read that she can take Mylanta.

The more I think about it, the more I'd be concerned about taking anything at 7 weeks pregnant. If I had to take something, I'd go with a risk category A or B drug, but the first trimester is sometimes riskier.

She is writhing in pain. She says her stomach is so upset. I think she said she was going to try some tums first because her OB told her that was okay to take, the last time she was pregnant.

:( I hope she feels better soon.
.. I swear I lived on tums when I was preggy(for the heartburn)

Does she have any idea why her stomach is hurting? Do you think she should call her doctor?

She says that it is burning like she ate to much acid and feels like it needs something soothing to coat it. I told her to call just in case but she lives in NC and I am in CA.

Okay so I just looked up tums and I think I need to call her back.

FYI: Tums:

The dose of calcium is within the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) in pregnancy but should be avoided in the first trimester because of potential teratogenicity.
Safe in the last two trimesters if chronic high doses are avoided.
The use of calcium in pregnancy may cause fetal hypomagnesemia, increased deep tendon reflexes and increased muscle tone.

The ones with the ingredient Loperamide also sound like she shouldn't take them during the first trimester.

Tell her to get some coke syrup from the pharmacy.... and have a dose over crushed ice. Sip slowly. It helps a LOT. Coke syrup is over the counter, but they often keep it in the back so you have to ask for it.

Baking soda in water always helped me.

No pepto. No aspirin containing products.
