How did you start? In the morning? Evening? Both? How many oz. of breastmilk did you use? Do I do it an hr after nursing? I was thinking of starting with oatmeal.

I started with oatmeal. I freeze some of my milk in an ice cube tray (it is about 1/2 oz of milk). I think that makes the perfect amount. I give her cereal in the evening because right now my kitchen is being remodeled and I am at my moms house in the evening for dinner. It depends on when dinner is made how she gets her cereal. Sometimes she will get her cereal about an hour before she will nurse again. Other times she will nurse on one side and then she will have her cereal and then nurse on the other side. I started with a bowl and spoon. I will never put cereal in a bottle! IMO it is a lazy way of giving a baby cereal! And I do not want my dd to have a bottle unless absolutely necessary! I even stopped pumping at night bc I have over 500oz in the freezer and I do not want it to go to waste LOL

I started at night also (dinner time) when my supply is at its lowest. I started with rice cereal and used about an ounce of BM to make it. I would give it between the late afternoon and before bedtime feeding. Then in a few months add another meal during the day or morning.

Yes, at first, until the baby gets used to eating it. Then you can make it thicker and thicker or add some fruit or veggie to it. I still find that now, it does take alot of milk so it is not like paste.

If you decide to do cereal, keep in mind that the current recommendation is to wait until baby is at least 6 months to start any solids. And to use a spoon, not put it in a bottle.
