L2 would be safer which is fairly safe but not as good a rating as L1- safest. I would take a drug if I needed to that was an L2.

that said,
minocycline is rated L2 for acute use,
it is rated L4 for chronic use.

It may be absorbed more by the infant than older tetracyclines.

Dr Hale (2002 edition says)
"Because we have many other antimicrobials with similar spectrums, the short term use of tetracyclines in breastfeeding women is not generally recommended , but not necessarily contraindicated. "

There is little risk of permanent dental staining with only a brief exposure (several weeks), but a side effect of use can be decreased linear bone growth and dental staining.

I would ask Dr. why this particular drug, and if something safer would be ok. "regular" Tetracycline is rated L2 and approved by the AAP for use in breastfeeding mothers. It seems to be ok for periods less than 3 weeks, longer use may result in permanent dental staining in the infant.
