My son loved sweet potatoes on his first sampling (Gerber) - I've decided to make his food vs. buying it. I just tried sweet potatoes today by peeling, cutting into small chunks, steaming and then pureeing in the food processor. They were extremely starchy and I had to add quite a bit of water to make it easier to swallow. The taste was quite diluted. Any ideas on how to make and serve??? The label on the Gerber container just said sweet potatoes and water??? Also, how long will it and other fresh made veggies/cereal/fruits keep in the refrigerator? Thanks!

I have only made DD food
Use the cooking water to puree the potatoes
and after you puree them run it thru a strainer and and spoon till it breaks up some more.
I freeze my food in ice cube trays and them transfer in to zip locks
here is a awesome resource that was passed along to me awhile back by some other lovely lady on this board.

I have a organic babyfood cookbook that I love.

Sweet taters are hard to do because they are so starchy and I always had a bit of a problom etting them just right. For a better taste if you have any extra EBM use it to mash in with them. (any chance to sneak more bm in!)

IA with wholesomebabyfood.com it is a site I used when 1st starting my own baby foods with DD. I also did the ice cube tray, ziplock babg thing like the PP. Then you have a whole big stash of foods!

wholesomebabyfood.com is a great website. My granny always told me that sweet potatoes aren't really sweet unless they are last years crop. I don't know how in the world you know the difference. Avacados, bannanas, apples, and homemade cereals are great first foods.

Hmm...I didn't have any problems with sweet potatoes. Yes, they're a bit sticky, but I always mix them with some jarred unsweetened applesauce - perhaps that helps to thin them out a bit.

I used to use chicken stock to thin out baby food when i made it, it will last up to a week in the fridge and 2 months in the freezer from what i read. i always found that jarred baby food was more runny than what i made.
