hey gals...

have been on and off lately, mostly lurking but i had to get your opinions and BTDT advice on potty training.

molls is doing GREAT. we started out by having "nudie bum time" before and after meals where we would undress her and let her tear around with nothing on. a couple accidents ( i think two...) and she was pee trained on the potty.

we have increased the time that she is doing this on days that we are home ( obviously we clothe our child when we are going somewhere...:)lol)

here are our problems and where i need the help. we have just in the last few days added in wearing either a dress with no dipe, pull up or undies, so she has to pull up her dress before she sits down. has done great. no accidents.

she still gets pullups for car rides and sleeping time ( naps...another time. really it is quiet time in her room reading as she has given up naps just before christmas...sigh)

1. as soon as we put something on her bottoms like underwear or a pullup she will wet through it. it's like she knows she doesn't have to concentrate on it. i'd like to do the underwear switch while we are at other peoples house or out running errands, but she has not had any success with that yet.

actually that is a lie, we have had a bit of luck in that this am i put her pj pants back on ( very loose and still felt like she was wearing nothing tight in the underwear region...no accidents , although she is working on pulling her pants up and down quickly enough. she has the dress down pat!!

do i just do the loose pants with no underwear until she gets used to the action?

2. POOP. we have had 2 kinda successes with poop since this adventure began...both were near misses. first one seh asked for a pullup and then as i was going to get one she pooped some on the floor on her way tot he potty but got the last little bit in. much rejoicing.

second she was downstairs and tried to go up the stairs to the big toilet instead of using her potty downstairs. ( which is strange, as she has yet to want to use the big toilet at ALL and i'm not pushing it. potty is fine with me until she gets the hang of it.)

the rest of the time she is holding it in and will not poop until naptime. will not try on the potty.? any ideas?

she has gotten a little constipated because of the holding in over the past few days, but i am reluctant to give her TOO many prunes as i think a blowout would happen and we are spending lots of time with no dipe on. white carpets...you understand.

any thoughts? potty training is seriously the most stressful thing about parenting so far for me. gives me shivers. BUT i think i have been doing really well working myself through it. i'm just stumped on these issues.

thanks in advnace. sorry so long. just wanted to give a complete picture of the sitch.

We never let a LO go without undies because we have big boys around here that would object. I wouldn't set up a habit that you can't support or continue so,I would insist she wear underpants. We bought padded underwear from www.pottytrainingconcepts.com and we were very successful with them.

We also read The no cry potty solution by Elizabeth Pantley, there was an excellent readiness quiz in there.

thanks for the book rec.

we have padded undies but we havn't tried them in a while as she has been doing so well. perhaps we'll have to try them again. as for the commando , we are lucky that it's not a big deal here, but at school we will have to come up with a better solution. w e have only tried undies once so maybe it will just be a few days of messes and she will et the point that it willnot be absorbed and will be uncomfortable.

we are now able to get her to wear pants and still have success, so we are moving in the right direction. ;)
