hi mommies,

my 9-month old ds is rejecting ebm. my caregiver feed ds ebm from bottle when i'm at work. ds doesn't want to drink ebm. when offer ds water, he will drink. this has been going on for nearly a month and ds has lost weight. i have tried giving him infant formula milk powder, he is also not drinking. i come home at night and feed him direct which i think is not enough. the next morning i have to go off to work again. help!! what am i suppose to do. milk suppose to be the main source at this stage. :(

Try a different bottle, some babies just don't like certain bottles. Also, make sure that she isn't making it too hot or cold. Some babies are also very picky about temperature. And at 9 mos he doesn't really need to be drinking water. Ask her to not give him water or a pacifier or anything else, so that if he wants to suck he will be drinking milk. Also, you could try starting a sippy cup, or offering him drinks out of an open cup, pouring small ammounts into his mouth at a time.

Maybe he is ready for solids?

I agree with tiredmommy...he really doesn't need water! He is losing weight because of that. I would suggest solids though. Keep up the good work trying to get him to have the bm though!

I don't think it's a sign that your baby is ready for solids.

DD refused to take EBM in any container while at daycare for the longest time. We didn't have to worry about weaning from a bottle because she never really took to one to begin with:)

We did introduce sippy cups at 3 months and she only began voluntarily drinking more out of it while I was at work full time at around 12 months. You may want to try sippy cups. Be prepared to experiment though, there are many many brands/styles out there.
