my bf has strep and I am starting to feel crappy
do you all know if I can take an antibiotic and still bf my son?
I am so scared he is gonna get it
althought we did have horrible colds and he never got it so I am really hoping here that he doesnt get the strep too.
I am just worried about having to quit bf because of a med I may have to take

You CAN safely take antibiotics and bf your lo. Make sure your doc knows you are breastfeeding. Chances are that even if you get strep, your baby won't. He has no doubt already been exposed to any germs that you have, and as long as he is nursing he is getting your antibodies to fight off whatever you are exposed too.

Like pp said, make sure you tell your doctor!!!
Also, SOME antibiotics can decrease your milk supply, so make sure you are drinking enough and eating enough while taking it if you do have to.

Being sick decreases your milk supply, because when you are sick you dont' feel like eating, drinking and your body is taking care of yourself.
even if you dont' tell the dr that you are breastfeeding, MOST any antibiotic they would give you for strep would be safe for baby --amoxicillin and zithromax come to mind, both of which are given to young ones if they get strep. amoxicillin is L1 (safetest), zithromax is L2(safer).

Thank you so much
I did go to the dr and she gave me amoxicillin but said to wait to take it to see if I need it in a few days... I guess maybe I could fight it off w/o meds which I thought once you had strep you needed meds... but thats cool if I dont
She alo said very rarely do they ever see babies under a year get strep because something about their immune systems being so good? or something,
So I guess I wait a few days and see? man after reading the sheet they give you about possible side effects from the penicillin I really hope I dont have to take it or and pass that on to my son. I hate meds!!!

they should do a strep test!!!!! the fact that they gave you an antibiotic without testing you for the actual problem is crazy to me! they have rapid strep tests that can give results in like 5 minutes. hello, antibiotic resistance (I'm totally not blaming that on you but how irresponsible of your doctor).

A rapid strep test will not always give a positive result if the infection is not well-established. In other words, they could run a rapid strep, have it show no strep, and then she could still come down with strep in a few days.
Not irresponsible of the doctor- sensible.

I've seen strep go untreated, seem to go away, but show up later as other issues--stomache and bone pains. If they did a strep test and you have strep, I'd take the antibiotics cause as a new mom, being sick and waiting it out in case your body might fight it off, I never had time for that. Also as a nursin mother, my body just didn't have that much oomph for fighting off everything and I'd probably need a little bit extra to do so.
They say if aspirin was approved today it would be prescription only and come with twice as many warnings as the amoxicillin, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. most antibiotics may cause diarhea or upset stomache and you need to know signs of possible allergic reactions.
