I am not a mom but plan on breastfeeding when that day does come and was curious as to how long babies usually nurse per feeding?

it depends.
for a newborn, until your milk supply comes in and gets established, baby may seem to want to nurse every hour, and take about an hour to nurse. ;) that is as much about baby doesn't know anything besides the instinct to nurse, as it is about hunger. it is also about comfort at the breast which is the closest thing to a newborn being back in the womb as they can get.

but as baby gets older it will shorten considerably, taking 5-10 minutes or so, every couple of hours. when baby goes thru a growth spurt, or often before their longest sleep time of each 24 hours they may want to nurse longer and more frequently again, but never quite the same as they do as a brand new baby.

does that answer your question?

What Amy said but even the newborn stage can vary. My oldest as a newborn would nurse 20 minutes per side each feeding. My youngest nursed 10 minutes and only nursed from one side per feeding.

My newborn nursed about 30-40 minutes on each side until about age 3 months. And then she started to get more efficient and the time on each side started going down...now she nurses about 10-15 minutes a side and she nurses about every 3 hours.

It depends on your baby. My daughter nursed for about 20 minutes on each breast with a 10-15 break in between. My neice however can go for almost 45 on one breast and won't eat for another 2 hours napping in between. You'll know your baby's pattern once they come. Good Luck.

My son took forever to nurse- it felt like that was all I did the first few months. As Amy mentioned, it is all about comfort and boosting your supply. Once you get past the super time consuming nursing period those first few months, then it is quick and easy.
