How is everyone doing tonight? We are going to get pummeled and the roads will be pretty bad. Wanna know how I know? The city manager (thank goodness he doesn't affect us) of the city by us just got busted for stripping sand off of a public beach and spreading on the roads in the "city". Super guy. Now, the city doesn't have enough salt and crap to throw down because he was supplementing and didn't tell anyone. Yippee.

Wow! That's unbelievable!

It's slicker than snot here ~ and the sleet is still coming down. It hasn't let up since around noon, so we've got a mess. Thankfully, it's sleet and not freezing rain, so it's pretty much just the streets, but we're supposed to get freezing rain later tonight and if we do, it will be really bad. I'm ready for warm weather.

We have no snow, but lots of ice! We are snug in our home and so far so good except for the fact that our yard is a mess from all of the limbs snapping off of our trees. Our power has been flickering all day, but it is holding strong right now.

My Mom has a housefull of people right now. Up the road just about 7 miles or so it is a mess. No power. Mom and the family that is staying with them did drive by to check on their houses and had to stop several times for my uncle to move huge limbs out of the road.

I have to say I hate the mess the ice makes, but it is very beautiful hanging off of everything.

I don't know if we'll get it bad or not. I was hoping for a snow day tomorrow but I just don't know. I think we're supposed to get about an inch of snow before it changes over pretty quickly to rain.

Stay safe, everyone!

I went to bed last night thinking I was getting 4 inches. I come home form work today to find out it's really 10-12 inchces. It should make me excited, except that it's all about snow and not a giant well trained weiner.

Boca :nono: I was like wth is she talking about? lol I'm lagging behind today.

I had watched the news yesterday and nothing big was mentioned and then bam! So much for 5 doppler radars. ;) My sister left today to go skiing in PA. They picked a good time to go.

ETA:

Mimi, he tried to justify it because it was on "city property" lol It was on a public beach dipstick. The guy is an ass. They are talking about it falling under strip mining. Well see about that though. It is such a good ol boy network.

This ranks right up there with the funniest things I've ever read here. You really should make it your sigline!

LMAO boca! It reminds me of that old joke about what men and snow have in common: never know how many inches you'll get or how long it'll last ;)

It's super-icky here. I avoided the outdoors all day, but alas the garbage needed taking out. I had to stomp through the ice down to the snow so's not to lose footing and bust my ass. I'm not going back out unless the house is on fire.

I shouldn't laugh at thinking about falling on the ice, but I've had so many close calls this winter and watched DS2 fall down so much that it makes me giggle. Just like how thinking of stubbing my pinky toe on the bed makes me cringe.

Falling on ice sucks.

I am annoyed that the weather man/woman/ticker-at-the-bottom-of-the-screen keeps calling it a "Wintry mix of sleet and snow." I sure as hell don't think of it as a "summery mix!" Sheese.

lol I give up on the weather people anymore. We have 3 major news channels and one will say one thing, one might be close to the first, and the third is way different sometimes. I just check the temp because that they can agree on, and then wait to see what it looks like the next morning.

I think I overheard two county sheriffs talking about this today. They said something about beach glass getting stuck in people's tires. I didn't hear any other details about it, though.

LOL 5 doppler radars in HD, no less...

Seriously, if you want to take the kiddos sledding, the hill in front of our museum is perfect for younger kids. Not too big, and never crowded.

I'm immensely relieved that they've canceled school. I cannot fathom loading my kid onto a school bus during all this mess and I sure as hell ain't driving anywhere!

My work hasn't officially given me the day off, but I won't be going in. It wouldn't make sense - it's dangerous for one and everyone else is staying home, too, so we wouldn't have any business anyway.

I didn't think about beach glass (even though much is smoothed). OH! I get the glass thing. They were taking it from the dunes and that is where a lot of teens (not that I would ever know) go/used to go to drink....

We might just have to go sledding together too. DS1 is dying to go again. We went in my sister's yard 2 weeks ago and he keeps asking to go again. I can not be the sled dog in the yard much longer. lol

It's bad here. Schools were closed today and will be tomorrow too. There's so much snow out there, I can't tell where the yard ends and the streets begin (our streets have not been touched at all).

I'm lucky I don't have to drive in it tomorrow since the schools are closed, but Nathan has to and I'm really worried about it. He called off work Sunday because he was sick so he's worried about calling off again tomorrow. =/

Still Me, that is terrible about the city manager! Geez. We've been stuck for the longest time in a dry warmer pattern. Got a little bit of snow Sunday but it melted by afternoon.

Yep.. the dunes hide a lot of evidence of many activities ;)

El asks me to go every day. I like the hill at work because there are no kids and I can tie her sled to a 50 ft rope. I wouldn't use the rope if there were other kids because someone would get clothes-lined. She rides, I stand, I pull up the sled and she has to walk back up. That is why I like this smaller hill.

I am in SE Ohio and the ice has been coming down since about 5 or 6 Tuesday evening. This much ice brings so much fear of the power going out. I have been lying in bed listening to my scanner. Amazing the amount of people still out on the roads in this. Here is to some hope and a good prayer everyone still has power when they wake up!!!!

Our power just went out for about 2 minutes, and while it was off there was major flashin just outside...brighter than lightning. Suddenly it pops back on. I am weirded out, but very grateful. Everything is covered in at least half an inch of ice. I will be out taking pics when it gets daylight.

Man! This snow is crazy. We are getting another 4-8 inches today. We'll see if it falls, but it looks like it will. DH's boss called and said not to come in unless he had things lined up for today. Of course he did, so he is off to work, but he'll be home by lunch for sure. I am loving this.

Colleen, I love when transformers blow (which sounds like what happened outside your house). It sucks because that means no lights, but at least we get a pretty show before they go. DH and I were watching a lightening storm once and saw one in front of our old apartment get struck by lightening. It was awesome.

You are crazier than I previously thought if you think I'm driving anywhere in this shit!

The same thing happened here last night - electric blinking off and on. DH said that after I went to bed, the power went off for a good, long 30 seconds during which time he heard lots of POWS! and BAMS! outside. Then, by some miracle, it came back on.

There are so many people without power - I can't imagine :( My mom is without power, too, but she at least has a generator and gas heat.

I tried to call in to work three times this morning, but no one answered. I'm assuming they didn't even open for business.

I took these photos about 9am. It's still steadily coming down.
