I am going back to school in March, I am exclusivly BFing. I have been trying to get my DS to take a bottle of BM. Grandma, dad and myself have all tried he refuses. Im still going to BF in the afternoons, evenings and weekends. But how do I get him to take a bottle during the day when I will be away. I am getting very short on time! THANKS

You might not get him to take a bottle, and that's okay. Many many breastfed babies will absolutely not take a bottle. Try offering him a soft spout sippy cup instead. Does your baby eat any solid foods yet?

Yes, he eats solids for breakfast, lunch and dinner and he still nurses about 6 times a day!! So I have to supplement some how im going to try and get him to take some formula while im at school too. ahhh this is a really hard transition for us!

He does eat solids for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and still nurses about 6 times a day!! Im not sure how often he needs milk in between so im going to try and get him on formula while I am at school. But I cant even get him to take my milk out of something other than me!!! Ahhhh this is such a hard transition for us!

We had luck with straw cups before sippy cups with both of my girls.

Keep in mind that breastmilk or formula should be most of his food until he turns one. There is really no solid that has the nutritional density of breastmilk or formula. So, if he's nursing 6 times a day, you probably should keep at that pace with his bottles until he's closer to a year old. Here's a calculator for how much intake he should get:
http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/milkcalc.html

Also, I'm assuming pumping may not be possible while in you're in school, but if you can pump, even once, that would be great. If not, let me encourage you to continue nursing when you're together (before classes and when you get home in the evening).

Breastfeeding doesn't have to be an "all or nothing" thing. Many working moms choose to use formula during the day but nurse when they're together. It provides a great way for mom and baby to re-connect after being separated during the day, and your baby will continue to benefit from the nutritional as well as immunological benefits from your milk for as long as you choose to nurse him. And your supply will adjust to where you don't make as much when you're apart.

thank you I do plan on nursing at night and befor I go to class in the morning it is a wondefull bond that Koltan and I have and I dont want to give it up completely! But Im not so sure that I will have time to pump so the formula is a must while I am in class. Thanks for your support I dont have any family that has ever nursed so this is my only way of asking questions and getting good answers!

The only bottle that DS would take is the Breastflow bottle by learning curve. It feels more like a breast.
