With all the not so good news in my life the past few months, I am happy to have some good news to share.
My baby brother is on his way home as I type this! YAY! Many of you have sent happy thoughts and prayers his/our way during his time in Iraq, (thank you) and while stationed in CA. So I am thrilled to let you know that he will be home (as in KY home) by Sunday!
It has been almost 2 years since I have seen him, and I miss him like crazy! We have always been very close. I can't wait for him to see Lilly againm she is crazy about him! And Brody was only 4 months old last time we saw him. Sunday can not come quick enough! YIPPIE! :woohoo:

Thanks everyone.
SIL says he is doing pretty well. That he does need time to himself sometimes, and will just want to be alone with his thoughts, and she respects that, no questions asked.
He has good coping skills. I know he is changed just by talking to him on the phone, and he has told DH a lot of what he has seen. BUT he seems to be doing well. I think it will take him a while to adjust back to KY life, but he is sooooo excited to be leaving CA for good. He was not a fan. (no offence CA gals)

Katie, that is so great!
I pray that he has a smooth transition and that is good he feels comfortable talking to your DH. I'd encourage that line being kept open.

Thanks gals!
Still-me. He has done a lot of talking to DH and DHhas been great for him. DH has been around since my brother was 12 so he is like a big brother to him. And DH would not tell me a thing about their conversations, other than letting me know that DB is ok. I really respect that, and think it is great that DH can be there for him and DB can tell him things and know that they will be kept between the two of them.

He has a great family in KY, and while there may be challenges ahead, he knows where to find support. Please thank him for me!

Oh my gosh Katie, I'm so happy for you. I have two brothers and a cousin that have all been deployed. My older brother and cousin three times and younger brother twice. Don't you finally feel like you can breathe again when they come home?
It's almost as if you didn't realize how worried you were until they were back. I am so incredibly happy for you.
And as far as the communication, I've found that as long as there is one person with whom they can share EVERYTHING, it is so much better. I am much closer with my younger brother and I just don't ask him anything and then at random times, he'll say something about Iraq. Then we drop it until he brings it up again.
I am teary eyed just thinking about you getting to see your brother.

That is great news! It should be easier to cope if he feels he has someone to talk to, so it is wonderful that he can talk to your dh. Tell him thanks for serving our country for us, too!
