Ds will be 1 year in March. I dont want to stop BFing, but how long did you all pump? I have a rental pump and since I'm active duty military they pay for the rental fees for 1 year. So if I want to keep it, I'll have to pay the $50/month. I was just curious how long after 1 year did everyone else pump.
Thanks!

I'm still pumping. DD will be 15mo. this week. I don't think I can stop anytime soon since DD still nurses quiet a bit and I still can pump as much as I did in the beginning. I'm planning on continuing until things change and she starts nursing less and I can stop pumping and just nurse. If I did that now I'd be mighty uncomfortable.
If you know you will pump long term then you might want to invest in paying a pump. I'm so happy I bought one and stopped renting, but then again my rental fees weren't covered.

My goal is to make it through a year and then if ds transitions to whole milk from a sippy cup, to cut down on the pumping at work. I don't want to cut out nursing entirely because this may be my last bambino, but I do not enjoy pumping at work. I would like to still nurse in the morning and evening/night, but will play it by ear depending on ds's needs.
Good luck with your decision.

I told a few people (in-laws) I was going to buy a pump and they asked why and how long I was going to do it. I think it would be a good investment for us. I guess we'll cross that bridge next month....

I nursed for about 2 weeks after I stopped pumping. My milk supply became really low, but I also found out that I was pregnant, and my son had a bad cold and refused to nurse.... so you may be able to nurse a while after you stop pumping.

Whitness: How many times a day do you still pump?

I pumped until dd was almost 23 months, I was going to pump until she was, but I got pg, and there wasn't any point. My milk supply drops pretty quickly. I decided to pump that long because dd was not eating solids, and still relied on milk for her nutritional needs.
I pumped for ds1 until he was 9 months old, and stopped for the same reason. I am not sure what I am going to do with ds2. We will just have to see.

Whitness: How many times a day do you still pump?
After she turned a year I went down to pumping twice a day instead of 3x's a day. I'm content with twice a day. 3 times was killer. I pump about 2-4oz less now that I'm down to two sessions a day but I still provide DD with plenty of milk to drink for the day. I'll eventually go to pumping once a day at work but I am waiting until she decreases her amount of nursing at night. She still nurses 3-4 times a night which would leave me very uncomfortable to only pump once a day at this point.

I only pump twice a day, and that seems to give DS enough to eat- with all the other snacks. When will I know that its ok to slow down or stop? My boss asked me the other day how long I plan on pumping, and said "cant he have formula at a year?" GRRRR. I told him I would pump as long as I needed to!

The formula comment would really irritate me too.
I know some women say that you could slowly wean off of pumping during the day and just nurse when you are with your LO. I'm too scared to try this myself, afraid that I will dry up completely. Also, I really want her to have BM to drink during the day.
I guess I don't have any advice on that sorry...

I guess since his DD was adopted and his wife didnt get to BF, he doesn't get it. But I'll jsut keep going until Ryder says its time. I jsut hope the stupid boss doesnt give me crap for it! Its our choice, not his.

I did not like pumping even though I had great success. I am spoiled- I see my son at lunch everyday. So at one year I quit pumping and he nurses in the morning, at lunch, and twice in the evening.
My supply is less but he still gets to nurse a lot. Plus, if he doesn't feel well and nurses often he builds the supply up again.

When I first went back to work with my first baby, I was pumping 3 times at work, once before I left the house, and once before bed. Around his 1st birthday, I dropped one pumping session per week. First the 2 sessions at home, then the ones at work.
