I took Alana to Greenville today to have her heart murmur checked out one more time. Everything is ok with it and she will outgrow it. She is now almost 30 lbs. and 37.5 inches tall.

On the way home I let my fiance drive my SUV I just got back in November. Dallas, Alana, and I all fell asleep on the way home. I woke up to the SUV going out of control and we hit the ditch. We rolled I don't know how many times, it seemed like alot at the time. We landed on the drivers side and all I could think about was oh my god the kids, I got to get them out. I got my door open, which was hard since it was standing on one side and had my fiance get the kids out of their seats and hand them to me once I got out.

Luckly they did not get hurt at all. I was concerned alot about both but I was really afraid for Dallas since his side hit the road. His carseat protected him on both sides. They both just had a couple of little straches and were stunned. When I got them out I realized after we hit the ditch it rolled more and we ended up on the drivers side on a dirt road by some railroad tracks. I was so thankful Austin and Andrew were not there, especially Austin since he does not sit in a carseat and he would have only been in a lap belt at the time. I told my fiance this is why I worry about having good safe carseats for my kids. I would hate to think what would have happened if Alana was in a booster seat like her cousins her age.

I'm glad everyone is safe!

Does Austin pass the 5 step test? http://www.carseat.org/Boosters/630.htm

Since you have two kids in harnessed seats, one of the harnessed seats should be installed with the lap belt - anyone in a booster or just seatbelt needs to have a lap AND shoulder belt - every single time they are in the car.

Don't forget to replace both carseats (and any other carseats or boosters that were in the SUV), your insurance might pay for that, but because another vehicle wasn't involved - they might not.

Austin passes the 5 step test. He is 11 and 4'10". My insurance will replace the carseats, they just replaced them two weeks ago when I hit a bridge due to ice and the kids were not in the seats. I have USAA and full coverage.

When I get my next car/minivan I will remember to place Dallas to the middle and have Austin use the lap/shoulder belt.

I'm so glad everyone was okay!

Karen, you need to be careful. Your insurance my cancel you with so many accidents so close together. At the very least, the company is likely to raise your rates.

I'd try to get a vehicle that doesn't have any seats with just lap belts.

I'm glad everyone is ok. I am sorry you had another accident. Why did it happen?

The first accident was 4:30 am on my way to work when we got snow two weeks ago. The roads were fine but I did not know the bridges iced up. I was going about 20 miles over it and slid and hit the bridge. Today my fianance was driving and he claims he hit a pothole or rock in the road and caused him to lose control of the SUV.

How scary, I'm glad you all are ok. Please do not ever place anyone in a lap belt only, not even an adult.
