Let's talk about food. Whatever you want - foods you hate, what you are making for dinner, weird combinations you like, how (if at all) you take your coffee and tea, your favorite vegetable, your favorite recipe - anything and everything food and drink!

For dinner, we're having Chicken Alfredo with garden salad and garlic toast.

What I really want is a Hot Brown.

I want a banana, strawberry smoothie. I have been craving them off and on since this past summer at the fair. No matter how many I have I still want them.

What is a Hot Brown?

I'm depressed about food. Due to DS's allergies, it's going to be hard to get used to.

We're having a pot roast with baby carrots and red potatoes, steamed broccoli and spinach salad. And then I'm going to sneak off to DQ when everyone is in bed and get a big ass Blizzard.

I don't like hominy.

We're having something fast food for dinner, because we had steak & vegetables, brown-sugar fingerling carrots and homemade bread for lunch.

I absolutely MUST have ketchup on my chicken and dumplings even though I'd never eat ketchup on any other kind of chicken!

I drink my Vanilla Caramel creamer with a little bit of coffee.

No "sweet tea" for me since I moved back from KY.

My favorite vegetable is roasted asparagus spears (olive oil & a few red pepper flakes).

There's no way in the world I could choose my favorite recipe ~ if we don't like the results, I don't make it again...lol... DH, on the other hand would choose my pecan pie and it's right off the Karo White Syrup bottle (lol), but the difference between mine and others is my pie crust. It's the flakiest, most melt-in-your-mouth pie crust ever made (and it's posted in our online cookbook here).

Fun thread, tata!

I hate all condiments. This includes: Ketchup, mustard, relish, any kind of salad dressing, mayo, sour cream. I eat everything plain.

I love Coffee-Mate's Peppermint Mocha coffee creamer. It's a seasonal flavor and I'm almost out of my stock. I'm scared!

I should probably think about dinner.

I am trying to make some flake type cereal in the dehydrator... fingers crossed it works, it would be soo nice to have a healthy type cereal for cheap. i have cinnimon apple chips in there ,too- oh that smells awesome.

I am out of milk- so I used a big glob of sweetened condensed milk in my espresso ....
oh dear, it can't be good for me.

I don't eat anything that has been grounded up and put back together. Yuck!

I love just about every veggie there is. Potatoes I could live on for the rest of my life.

I hate seafood except for lobster and crab legs.

I can't stand milk but can handle drinking chocolate milk once in awhile.

Pasta is my favorite thing to eat, the more garlic the better.

When I was pregnant I craved sweet pea's out of a can. And I would eat them like that too. Just open, drain and scoop. Yuk.

I still like pea's but not out of a can. Split pea and ham soup is my favorite!!!

oh that is too true! The food in NM was soo good because of the chiles!!
- and there is nothing like them here. we kicked ourselves for not buying a big huge strand of dry ones when we were there.

The other day I actually said to dh
" it would be completely irresponsible to pack up and drive to new mexico just for the food"

Right now I'm doing the Shangri La Diet, so I'm drinking a lot of olive oil.

I just made homemade granola bars that are really yummy and I feel like such a crunchy earth mama. It contains wheat germ and coconut oil. My 11yo loves them and had three bars as a snack after school.

Marysmom, do you use salad dressing? Oh man, but I am the condiment queen!

BHF, I'm glad you are enjoying your dehydrator. I'd ruin it by putting steak in there for jerky!

I like food. Period. I have never met a veggie I wouldn't eat. I love whole grains. I love fish, except for tilapia--it tastes like dirt. I love to bake; the problem is that I love to eat it too. I will only consider an item "candy" if it is primarily chocolate. I don't waste my time on the other stuff.

If I had to give up any kind of food, it would be beef. I like it, but I can live without it.

I drink tea--red, herbals, and decaf, every day, all day.

Tonight I am having baked potato "fries", steelhead trout, and two kinds of squash. I might bake a pineapple coffee cake for dessert. Yummy.

Granola Bars

2 C oats
1 C whole wheat flour
1/2 C brown sugar
3/4 cup dried fruit, I use cranberries
1/2 C wheat germ
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinamon
1/2 C unrefined coconut oil
1/2 C honey
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla

Mix all together. Butter 9x13 pan and line with wax paper, plop mixture in and place another piece of wax paper on top. Use a rolling pin or another pan or your hands to smash it down and spread it out, it takes some work but the more you smash, the better they stay together. Bake at 325 for 20-30 minutes depending on how soft or crunchy you want them, immediately turn them out onto a cutting board and remove the wax paper or it will stick. Cut when cool. Store them in a bag or mason jar after they are totally cooled off or they get soggy.

My daughter, who is an extremely picky eater and hates anything "weird" and only thinks crappy junk food is tasty, also loves them and had two. Success!

Right now I'm doing the Shangri La Diet, so I'm drinking a lot of olive oil.

Seriously drinking it? Like from a cup? How does that diet work? Don't get me wrong, I like olive oil too, but this strikes me as a bit extreme! Please share whatever links/information you can :)

Michele, I like food, too. I really like eating it. A lot. Unfortunately, I'm picky. My brother, on the other hand, says "Is it smoked eel? No? Then I'll eat it." ::shudder::

I love vegetables. The only ones I'm less crazy about are eggplant and beets.

Fruit? Not so much. Pears are my favorites, but they are hard to get. I am lucky if I enjoy one good one per year. I don't like anything citrus or berry (although I do like berries in stuff, like yogurt and pancakes).

I'm starch-crazy. I love potatoes and bread and pasta. Perogies are just about the best food ever :D

I hate milk, but I adore cheese. I like all cheese, even Limburger (although it's not my favorite). Ahhhhh, the power of cheese!

Babyhellfire

Cool! Thanx kerry! That sounds really yummy.

Do you think it would work with a flax "egg" instead- or not hold together as well?
eggs do weird things to my belly I usually don't bake with them.

I like crackers smooshed up in balsamic vinegar.

I like Ketchup on fries only, and otherwise can not stand it. If it touches my finers I have to go wash up right away. UGH the smell.

Potato soup and Dumplings are my fav foods.

Very often i have ice cream for lucnch. (DH thinks I'm a nut)

My fav desert is called Heveanly Hash. It rocks, but has nuts in it so I have not had it in about 4+ years. I still make it to take places becuse people request it, but it stinks to have to make it and not get to dive in.

I love eggplant. I like eggplant roasted and mashed with olive oil and garlic to make baba ganooj; I love the garlic eggplant those cats over at the Chinese restaurant make; I love eggplant parmigiana.

I really never met too many veggies I didn't like. I don't, however, like mangoes or papayas.

I don't like shellfish. But I like fish.

I'm making curried tomato lentil soup for dinner, I think, with some fresh bread. Unless I change my mind.

My daughter likes to take Wendy's french fries and dip them into a chocolate Frosty. Blech...she says it's good, I'll take her word for it. Chocolate and potatoes...eww.

I hate cheesecake.

I will eat almost any vegetable. I will not eat brussel sprouts or beets though. I didn't like mushrooms before, but they are growing on me. They have to be cremini mushrooms though...not those white nasty things. I could live on fruit and veggies. I basically do during every season but winter.

Seafood is starting to grow on me. I tried some fresh Swordfish in a light creme sauce with cremini mushrooms last night at work and it was pretty good.

I pretty much will try something once. I won't eat organs. Ever. Things out of a box (ie:mashed potatoes) makes my stomach lurch. I wasn't raised that way, so to have it now *shiver*

My weird food combo is mashed potatoes mixed with corn. So very good. If I had to pick one meal to live on for the rest of my life, it would be ribs and sweet corn.

I take 1 Tbsp. 3 times a day, between meals. It acts as an appetite suppressant, so I don't have any interest in snacking between meals, and I eat less at mealtime. It's been amazing. It's the first time I've taken in fewer calories and lost weight and haven't felt deprived once.

Very interesting, Kerry. Sounds like something I might could stomach, too. Do you feel fewer fat cravings? I'm a sucker for a high-fat food - especially deep-fried.

Fries in a Frosty is a near-perfect sweet and salty combo.

How can anyone HATE cheesecake? I can't understand that at all, but I'm glad that there is more cheesecake for me because of it :D

One of my favorite treats is super hot and salty fries with a big ol snickers blizzard, yum!! I love most all condiments. If I am eating something that requires bdipping I like multiple dipping sauces.
I hate almost all veggies, very bad I know and I am trying to expand my palte to be a good example to ds one day.
I love to cook but seem to make the same stuff over and over, although I tried a new recipe last nigt, and it was awesome.

Despite being born and raised in the deep South, I HATE sweet tea. The smell of it cooking turns my stomach. I will actually spit it out if I accidentally grab the wrong glass and take a swallow.

Because of this I have often been accused of not really being from the South.

Herby I am so trying that granola bar recipe. My kids love them, I hate buying them.

Oh and I tried SLD today with canola oil. It was flavorless, though it may take some getting used to. I don't think I'll be doing it in the mornings since I have no issues with eating then but in the afternoon (2-3pm to be exact). It did cut the carvings for food, especially sweets (I can stomach the thought of the fructose water and oil like they talk about on the website). But the oil had been in sunlight because I left it on the counter by the window, so it was I think too warm for me. It sat odd on my stomach (not bad, but different). It definitely did it's job though. I also had no desire to overindulge at dinner (we had mashed potatoes and deviled eggs as a part of dinner which are my favorites. I was able to walk away with smaller portions and feel content.) So that's makes you extra comfrey in my book.

We had grilled steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad, deviled eggs.

I could eat brown rice and california blend veggies day in and day out.
I hate the texture of liver but love the taste.
Duck has a texture that wigs me out and reminds me of liver (Or is it goose? I forget.)
I've had rocky mountain oysters, they are yummy but again, texture especially if you think about what they are while eating them.
I'm dying to try escargot, but they way Gordon Ramsey did it. Thing is I can't remember how he did it but he avoided garlic herbed butter. I know he used the snails from his own backyard making me wish we had snails that big.
I love saurkraut piled on my mashed potatoes.

We call tes in the south syrup of tea. I don't know how they can handle that much sugar in it. However I know a guy that would make it southern style but with Celestial Seasonings Mint. That was like drinking candy. And crazy candy at that since mints give me anxiety.

I don't drink sweet tea often, it is tea flavored syrup. (yuck!)
I don't like deyhdrated veggies of any sort. My house is proudly bell pepper free. I read all labels and won't buy something if it has it in it. I will even return a dish at a resturant if it has bell pepper in it and it wasn't stated on the menu. (not allergic, we all just HATE it. I think it our Most Hated Vegetable)
We eat about 10 pounds of baby carrots a month.
We don't eat bone in skin on chicken, unless we HAVE to. Also icky.
I will only eat fish if my mom or grandpa catch it. (mainly because they give it to me already skinned and in boneless fillets)
There are foods that I want to like, but can't stomach. Like mangos. (Not really sure there are actually suited for human consumption.)
I like chocolate of any kind, dark, white, milk, semisweet, unsweetened.
My MIL, BIL and DH go to a place called Fudrucker's and eat plates of pickles covered in melted cheese. :puke:
I don't like fruit with meat.

Everything on this thread sounds so good! I'm having a harder time this go-around sticking to my diet for gestational diabetes. I need to cheat and have some chocolate or something here and there or I go crazy. I think it's because I'm not working and my days seem so much longer at home with ds. I'm also having a hard time in the morning because I can't eat traditional breakfast food. Having dinner foods at breakfast time is not my idea of fun.

Some of my favorites are:
Coffeemate French Vanilla Creamer (has to be Coffemate)
Ice Cream, especially Choc Chip Cookie Dough, Vanilla, and Cookies and Cream
Black and White Milkshakes
Chicken Cordon Bleu
Seafood, especially crab legs and scallops
Mashed sweet potatoes

So no picklesicles for you, I guess? We used to take our students roller skating a couple of times a year and the roller rink always had big jars of dill pickles for sale.

One of their employess got the bright idea to freeze the leftover pickle juice in little plastic cups and they sold each one for $0.25 (pretty enterprising if you ask me ~ lol ~ ). The kids LOVED them but I ::shuddered:: just looking at them.

I'm working on my grocery list and went through my recipes in my documents folder, I came across a recipe that VTmama (she still here?) posted a while back. I haven't made it yet, but I'm all excited 'cause it sounds so good.

Mexican cornbread casserole

Brown beef w/ diced onion and taco seasonings. Mix with canned black beans, canned diced tomatoes, corn. Spread in bottom of casserole dish. Mix box of cornbread and pour over top. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese. Bake as directed by cornbread box.

The menu for the week is:

Tonight - Hot Brown
Monday - Pulled pork sammiches
Tuesday - Mexican Cornbread Casserole
Wednesday - Soup and Sammiches
Thursday - Potato pancakes and/or brinner
Friday - Chili

We're doing tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner tonight.

I really want another cup of coffee, but don't feel like going and making it. DD says she wants hot chocolate with marshmallows. I don't really feel like going in there and doing that either. The "dinner" thread reminded me that I hate asparagus. I keep trying it every few years, but yeah, I hate it.

And while I love most veggies, I only like some of them cooked and some of them raw - very few of them both ways. For example, I love raw carrots and bell peppers, but do not like either cooked. I only like cooked (lightly steamed, in fact) broccoli and cauliflower. I love onions and tomatoes raw or cooked. Mushrooms have to be cooked. I prefer raw olives, but either way is fine.

I don't like stuffed olives, well, I hate pimentos period. But cocktail olives are so damned expensive here, if and when I can find them, that I buy the nasty ones and pick out the pimentos.
I don't like most canned veggies either, just corn, green beans and water chestnuts.

Oh, and if you take a bag of chips and a gigantic bag of candy over to a guy friends house and cook dinner too, they will stuff themselves silly. My friend hasn't had the money to buy much food for him, (but feeds his DS very well) so I make a point of cooking "dinner" once a week and leaving the extra uncooked food and all the leftovers.

I'm not a big cooked veggie person. Canned fruit is nasty too, w/2 exceptions, pineapple and mandarin oranges.
