dd2 did not make it for the 2009-2010 cheerleader :(
She was a bit upset and cried a little in my lap but she said she is ready to work hard and get ready for next year.

Yeah this is her first time to try out. She was in ballet mostly when she was in elementary and just a few months ago decided to try out. She is doing better today and is looking foward to continue training for next year.

Sarabina how did you help your dd get over her broken heart? How long did it take her? The good thing is that dd does not have school this week since she is on year round and they have intercession this week. See dd is ok right now but every now and then she comes to me with a long sad face and says "mom I'm still sad..." She did this more yesterday than today. I just tell her that I know it hurts and its okay to feel bad and I hug her a lot.

It broke my heart when she didn't make it. They post the result online and we checked together and when her name wasn't on the list, our hearts just sank. I swear I cried more than she did. I was so sad for her because it was something she really wanted to do. I just remember telling her she did the very best she could, try not to feel too discouraged, and we would work on it for the next time. And we did, and she made it the next year. Seeing her name on the list the next year, was a much better feeling.
I'm sorry your DD is sad!! ::hugs::

That is how it happened for us as well. We checked on line and when her name was not on there our hearts just sank. She did not cry right away but she went to her room and when I called her to come sit with me, her eyes were red a puffy. I told her it was ok to cry and she then sat in my lap and cried. She slept with me that night and we talked, the next day she was trying really hard to get through it and Sunday was a little better. I just know that when she goes back to school next week she will be sad all over again when she sees her freinds that did make it.

How old is your DD? It is a terrible feeling to see them so broken hearted! We will be going through this same thing again next month when we try out for freshman cheer.

She is 12. DH talked to one of the coaches and she said dd did very well and the only thing that kept her scores low was the teachers scores. One of her teachers told me that she turns in late work at times and its hard to get her to focus. Well dd has ADHD and is on medication for it. The coach told DH that she did not know dd was ADHD, I am going to have to look into this to make sure that it is on her record that she has ADHD. I know it won't make a difference now but maybe in the future it will. I don't even know if all her teachers realize she has ADHD.

Oh no! In the 7th and 8th they did not do teacher evaluations for cheer. Just the cheers/jumps. However for high school, they do. She had to get all 7 teachers, one sponser and one principal evaluation. We were told that these evaluations were considered more significant than that actual tryouts. My DD can't tumble whatsoever, that will always be her downfall. But she excels in the other areas.
I hope you get some answers about your DD though!

I thought it was kind of odd that the teachers eval counted for so much. DD can tumble but she is still working on her back handspring and she can also jump. She and another girl were the only ones who could tumble but tumbling only got them 5pts.

I am surprised that the evaluations, at that age, would count for so much, too.

They did and she had to give one to every single teacher. She is going to meet her personal cheerleading coach next week and she will continue to take private lessons to get ready for next year.

They should. If they are already struggling in school then adding an activity that takes a big time commitment and takes them out of class a lot probably isn't a good idea.

Yes, every single teacher.
Vulturemom, I agree with that for the high school level for sure. I was just surprised by it for the junior high level- because we didn't have that requirement here. But it makes sense though.

They did have to turn in grades from last 6wks and this 6wks and they had to have a 70 or above in order to try out which is understandable. I just think that the character reference for a Jr. high kid should not be more important than the skill of cheerleading. Yes its important but it should not be worth more than the skill IMO.
