I am about 100 lbs over weight. My blood pressure is high and I am pre-diabetic. I need to lose weight- at least 20% by the end of the year. I have been doing weight watchers since Jan 2nd and I lost 9lbs. It was 11.5lbs, but I fell off the wagon 2 to 3 weeks ago and I started gaining. My doctor said that we could try medical interventions after March. It is approaching soon, and I need help.

Are there any diet drugs (stimulant or fat blocker or other) that are safe with breastfeeding. I am at the point that I will wean my 16 month old dd if I need to, but I dont want to. I want to be educated just in case my dr prescribes something. I also have been considering Lap Band surgery, but that is not even on the table until next Jan.

I work out 3 days a week, I nurse 3+ times per day, and I eat pretty good (I have a major sweet tooth). I want to do this, but it is hard. I used Xenecal before and I lost 40 lbs. I kept it off for a few years, but after a wedding, a baby, and working full time, I keep gaining and I am desperate.

No, diet drugs are generally unhealthy, with the possible exception of Alli/Xenical.

I've been following a diet called the Shangri La Diet, and I can't say enough good things about it. I really recommend checking out the book - it's written by Seth Roberts, PhD. He also has a website (I think it's sethroberts.net) with message boards that discuss the diet.

Kerry, you have completely piqued my curiosity with this... I may have to try this.

More out of curiosity, but what do some of them rate on the hales scale? There will be some sort of intervention by my doctor. My health is at risk (more so than some of the drug effects) and I must do something in addition to exercise and diet changes.

You would need to give me specific drugs and then I can look them up.
