View Full Version : Is my baby getting enough EBM to not wake up at night?

I have an 8 mo. old baby who has breastmilk every 3 hours, whether it be nursing or a bottle with breastmilk. At work, I pump 10 oz. of milk (4 pumping sessions), which is all the milk she gets until I come home. Once I'm home, she nurses every 3 hours even through the night. I would like her to sleep longer stretches during the night (at least 5-6 hrs.), like she did around 2-3 months, but I'm worried that if I eliminate a middle of the night feeding she won't be getting enough breastmilk. I really don't want to have to supplement with formula.

She normally nurses with me when I get home- 5:30 pm, has solids, then another nursing before bed at 7:30 pm then she wakes up at 10:45pm, 2 am, and 5:30 am, to nurse. Can I eliminate any of these feedings? If so, which ones and will she be getting enough breastmilk to grow?

Thanks for your help!

Honestly, at that age she may be hungry at night. I know it's tough, believe me, I've been there, but most babies take closer to a year to sleep through the night.

If you get to that age and find that she is waking frequently, you could try working on dropping a feeding, but I would not attempt it before then to ensure she's getting enough breastmilk.
