Today DH got a letter in the mail from the Workforce center here sayimng that they are now offerring free drug screening for no other reason than to give you a certificate to show employers.
What is the point of this if employers drug screen anyway?
I'm afraid I don't understand it.
There are apprx. 7,099,962.6 people who are unemployed in Texas, even if 5 panel drug screen is only $15 (i am having to guess, the drug screening place here is closed already so I couldn't ask them) that is a huge amount of money if every takes the test! It would be $106,499,439!

I'd scan the letter and post it but my new printer doesn't have that feature. Oh well.

They're trying to help people get a job and get off welfare. Of course, little do they know, it is falling on deaf ears when it comes to your husband.

I just don't see how it helps any one.
Oh, it might tell some one who does drugs if they can pass a drug test or not so that they can pass a drug test whether they are clean or not. Then again, I just don't see the point of the state paying for something that an employer will look at and say, "That's nice. You have to go pee in a cup anyway, despite what that paper says. "

I don't neccesarily think it's a bad idea.
Is Workforce requiring the drug screen or just offering it? Not all employers require a drug test so likely not every Workforce person would need it.

They don't require it. They say it is to "help you enhance your job search success". No one knows the results but you, unless you share them with a potential employer. Plus, with as easy as it is to test clean when you aren't, I really don't get the point. About all the good I see it doing is telling someone that their current method of passing the test works.

ETA: I know that not every one will take the drug screen.

In our state, you take the test and get a card from this particular company. Then you show it to each new employer. My dh took his and when he would go to a new jobsite they would ask to see it. He also got $25 for peeing clean.

It makes sense if employers ask to see it, but they don't here.

I could see an employer looking more favorably upon a candidate producing a clean U/A at an interview. I think anything someone can do to put themselves ahead of the pack and stand out in a positive way is a smart thing to do while job hunting.
