It's been awhile since I last used storage bags (pumped for a year and nursed for 2 years with my little guy). I'm due in April and trying to buy ahead as much as possible. I'll have to go back to work when my next little guy is 6 weeks so I'd like to have some storage bags on hand to fill up during my maternity leave.

Last time, my guy didn't drink much milk at daycare, and a lot of the time, I'd just send what I had pumped the day before. I remember a lot of the freezer bags leaking when I thawed them, but can't remember which brands leaked. It seems like the store near our house had the Gerber bags, and I used them a lot, but I also used the Ameda bags (that you had to roll down and fasten with twist tie type things on the sides), Lansinoh bags, and the First Years bags that stand up. And it's driving me crazy that I can't remember which ones leaked! I should have written it down. I'd rather stick to the bags instead of bottles (like Medela) for freezer storage, just for the cost factor, but I did find some Lansinoh freezer bottles at Target on clearance and picked them up.

A little long-winded tonight, sorry :)

Any recommendations on freezer bags that don't leak? I usually put 3-4 oz in each bag, since my baby didn't drink much at a time, and preferred straight from the tap, so I don't think I was overfilling the bags. (Nursed all night long and then drank very little at daycare.) To thaw, I'd put them in a bowl of warm water.

Thanks!

I prefer the Lansinoh bags. I've never had one of them leak on me and I think they are much easier to use then the Gerber bags. I also put 3-4oz in each bag. I don't think most breastfed babies take in more than that at one time.

My DD is the same way. She nurses like crazy at night and won't take much at all during the day.

Congrats and hope to see you around more after April!

I used the Gerber bags for a year, I filled them up to the 6 oz mark and never had any of them leak on me.

I'm a fan of Lansinoh bags. I did get some free Gerber bags from a few other bfing friend but I really was not a big fan of Gerber ones.

The Lansinoh bags just seem better as they are thicker, can hold more than 6 ounces of breastmilk in them, and appear to be more durable. I say "appear" as we've never had to use our freezer stash. I freeze in increments ranging between 7-9 ounces per bag.

About a year ago, I stopped freezing in small increments, hoping that DD would start using the freezer stash. I realized that she was going to nurse on demand when I was with her and take little to none of freshly expressed breastmilk while I was at work.

I use both the Gerber and the Lansinoh... I had a couple (maybe 2 out of the hundreds) Gerber bags leak. They may have been dropped, though....

I think any with a double "zipper" are going to be ok.

Storing your breast milk safely is important to the health of your baby. There are many different ways you can store your breast milk, though the ease and safety of some methods are not as good as others. Here is my take on a couple of systems to store your breast milk safely after pumping."cathug"
