Sorry this is so late - had trouble logging in.

Breastfeeding was going great until Sunday. Started Zantac for reflux the Friday before and the spitting up was better. But Sunday and Monday during the afternoons and evenings, and yesterday all day and today a little bit, my son will sometimes latch on fine and then a couple minutes in pull of and start screaming, then not be able to latch on again, or sometimes not latch on from the start.

Not sure what is going on. Seems like his stomach might be bothering him, possibly fast let-down. Fed with pumped milk and he was fine.

What is going on???

Thanks in advance for your help!

First, congrats on your baby! I would recommend, if possible, seeing a lactation consultant in person.

Based on what you've written, it sounds to me like he may be reacting to a very fast/strong letdown. What you describe is pretty classic behavior.

Here is a link to more information on fast letdown and what you can do to help it:

Sometimes reflux can cause what you describe as well. Here is a link to information on fussing at the breast and the various causes:

Good luck and I hope you can get it figured out! Feel free to post in the general breastfeeding support forum if you have further questions.
