Hi there!!! My son is now 6 months old and weighs only 15 lbs 3 oz. Do you think he is gaining weight like he should? He does have reflux and is already on medication for it, but I don't think its making a difference. I usually take him to my breast feeding clinic but it has been a while since I've been able to do that and I want to make sure that his weight gain is ok. When I was going they told me that he wasn't gaining like he should. We just started him on rice cereal the other day and I was thinking that maybe they were basing it on breastfeeding and solid foods. What should his weight be at 6 months with breastfeeding alone?

By six months you can start introducing the solids, the single grains and introduce them one at a time. Unfortunately most of the time babies growth rates are measured using a standard chart, not until recently a new chart was brought out specifically for breastfed babies, find out which chart your doctor was using and what percentile is he? Let them show you how they plot his growth rate and where he should be on the chart. If he is gaining steadily and showing no signs of dehydration, I wouldn't worry too much.
