View Full Version : Pumping -- would you?

DD just turned a year. She drank 2oz of formula from a bottle (from ME! of all people) a few days ago. I wanted to make sure when I leave her overnight for my St. Paddy's Day weekend funtime that she would take something from a bottle. My very good friend who is watching her knows she co-sleeps and plans on bringing baby to bed with her.

I found my Avent Isis (the handheld one) that I used with ds. I have not ever pumped for dd2. Ever. I tried to pump a little tonight, and nothing would come out. Of course, dd2 nursed about 8 times today, so it's probably a little dry in there. Oh, and she was whining and smacking the pump like it was on her ba and she wanted it off! "lol9"

Would you bother pumping (on my overnight visit)? I don't need the milk, necessarily, as a little bit of formula won't hurt. For that matter, I can give her whole milk instead (IDK if she would drink it, though).

Only if it becomes uncomfortable for me? I won't dry up if we miss one night of night nursing, will I?

I do plan on letting dd2 set the pace wrt to weaning. And she is not ready.

ETA: just wondering if you would skip pumping/nursing for one night. Oh, and I had CTS release surgery 3 weeks ago, and all I have is a hand pump.

I think that you are going to get mixed replies on this one. For me though, since she is a year old, I might give her formula or whole milk (if I was in your situation). I don't think you'll "dry up", but seeing as how she still nurses 8 times a day, you may become engorged. You could try pumping a couple times a day until then, eventually something should come out.

I don't think you'll dry up from one night of not nursing. You might be mighty uncomfortable in the morning though...but I think that all depends on how many times she usually nurses at night.

Since it is just one night I'd probably try to pump some for her to have while I was away but thats me. I'd offer whatever I had pumped, formula, milk and/or water.
