help!!

i am a new mom of a 3 1/2 week old and finding breastfeeding a challenge. my son feeds very often, especially at night. my nipples get so sore by the end of the night, i am crying through his feeding. his latch seems to be good. my let down is very painful also. i think that is part of it. sometimes one breast hadly gets a break before he is ready for it again. any advice?

I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time. I really think you need to see a lactation consultant in person. At 3 weeks old, you should not still be having painful feedings, and if your nipples are still sore, that would suggest that your latch isn't quite right. You need to have someone evaluate you in person and help you.

How often does your son nurse, how long are the feeding sessions? Can you hear him actively sucking and swallowing during the feeding, or does he doze off a lot? How is his weight gain?
