They have not offically called it a tornado yet, but believe it was. It was some scary crud, I'll tell you. We got the kids up and headed to the basement. Little Brody was out like a light, but Lilly was terririfed because it hit so suddlenly that DH just ran in a scopped her up. She ended up calming down and thought it was fun sitting in the dark with candles, but boy did it take her forever to fall asleep after the storm!

Barns blown overs, roofs of houses, and mobile homes tossed around. thankfully we faired well, and have no known damage. I hope to ge tout with the kids today and get some shots of the damage. Geez. After our horrible ice storm a couple months ago, I think the people in our community deserve a break!

Wow that must have been scarry. I am glad that you guys were able to stay safe.

I am always scared about a tornado hitting here. We don't have basements in FL. All we can do is run to a bathroom and hope for the best:( Thankfully in the place we live now has a bathroom right in the center of the apartment and it is under the stairs that lead upstairs with no windows.. I guess that would be a good place to hide from a tornado.

Wow, my biggest fear is a tornado hitting in the middle of the night. Storms during the day do not bother me as much, but at night I usually sleep with the tv on the local station.

Glad everyone is ok!

Thanks everyone. (((hugs))) IA Peeka storms in the night seem so much worse. W edid not even have time to do the normal "Should we wake the kids up...hmmm....do you think it will get bad?"

W ewere just watching T.V. and it had been windy all day. The news flashed on and said "If you are in ********** (our exact small town) take cover NOW!" and then the tv shut off and it started hailing. We literally ran to get the DC and into the basement. It did not last very long, but the fact that it was so sudden was scary.

Im glad your family is ok and you had a safe comfortable place to hide. I was pregnant with my son when a tornado hit Kodak (where I worked) in Windsor, CO last May, and we had to stay in the bathroom for 4 hours. I had severe anxiety attacks and being stuck there with everyone else and the fear or not knowing if my family was ok just about killed me. It didnt hit us too hard but the daycare down the street is still demolished. I still freak out when the weather gets bad and the sky gets dark. I hope your daughter is ok and wont be like that too.

I know what you mean about it being so sudden. They paged the tornado warning just a couple of minutes before it hit because they didnt believe the warning call from an employee that saw it coming!!!

How scary! Tornadoes are, in my book, panic attack inducing. I love storms. Tornadoes scare the crap out of me.

I am so glad you all are ok. Tornados are my biggest fear as well. I work in a hospital and when we have had tornado warnings I get really scared because I am not able to go be with my family and my mom is one that would wait till it was on our front steps before she takes cover. DD1 and dd2 have a tornado plan written out so i feel better when they are at home during a storm.

So glad you are alright Katie!

We get tornado warnings quite frequently, yet I still get frazzled when thinking about what to take downstairs with us...things we can't keep extra's of down there like cell phones and the weather radio. I need to just put a list on the door I guess. The dog is the biggest problem, she's terrified of stairs. DH managed to get her down there once when she was a puppy, but she's 80lbs now and unfortunately we decided that she'll just have to stay upstairs if he's not here at the time.

On the flip side, I LOVE to watch them on TV! They are quite amazing!

I'm so glad you all are safe!

Tornadoes are really scary. Last year was bad in this area. We had three warnings back to back one day, and our tiny town was in the direct path (I had family calling me from all over GA because they saw the town specifically listed in the warning). Just a short distance up the road, everything was demolished, and two people were killed in one of the tornadoes.

This past Friday morning there were homes in the area that were destroyed, but the damage was done by very high winds, not tornadoes (I posted a thread about it with a link to a video). Now tonight we're expecting snow. Go figure.
