We are off to Alaska on a cruise in August. I have never been and am really looking forward to it. But I am a Disney junkie and prefer all my vacations be there :) I know! Pathetic right?
So where is your favorite vacation spot and why?
Where would you never go again and why?

We went to Montana 6yrs ago for a wedding, it was beautiful there. The bride grew up near Glacial National Park so we spent a lot of time there. Our favorite place with the kids is Burlington VT, we can camp there and do tons of stuff we love to do.
We've never gone anywhere we hated.

I should start by saying, I don't really enjoy vacationing, I prefer traveling(site seeing, learning about the culture, exploring the local communities as opposed to relaxing and sunning)
South Africa. Hands down the most amazing traveling experiences of my life. I went once for a month with my dad, and another time with my mom, dad, and sister. My father and I traveled around South Africa, and when I went again with my family we also took a brief excursion into Botswana and Zambia.
It is just beyond beautiful, and like nothing I have ever experienced before. It is like walking into another world. When you travel around North America or Europe (though my travel in Europe is limited), there are many differences, but there is a sense of familiarity in the people and the landscape. I was constantly surprised at just how different it was there, even in the big cities. It was also a huge wake up call. It is one thing to see pictures or hear stories about the poverty in other countries, it is another to witness it first hand.

I don't think I could narrow it down to just one place. It would have to be a tie between Disneyworld and beautiful coastal places.
Like Kitty, I don't enjoy just laying around and sunning, I much prefer to explore and do adventurous stuff. Favorites parts of past vacations include para sailing over the ocean, riding ATV's from the city to a private beach with huge dunes and tons of trails (the tour guide guy that took us went through lots of non touristy areas so that was pretty neat), taking a snorkeling cruise, eating local foods, exploring.
When I went to Maui to see my brother get married, my oldest was still a little baby and I really missed out on the things I wanted to do. Sunrise trip to the top of the highest mountain peak and riding a bike to the bottom. (How fun does that sound, right!!!) I did get to explore the 7 sacred pools which is 7 waterfalls that flow into one another down to the ocean and you can swim in them. That was pretty cool. Then there was back road out of Hana that you can take that's all dirt and pretty much like riding through unexplored jungle. My brother went back that way and said it was awesome. That's the kind of stuff I'm into vacation wise!
Amazing Race would be right up my alley. I'd love to be on that show, not to win, just to do all the fun adventurous stuff. I suppose I'd take the million dollars if they forced me to! ;)
eta: to change sister to sacred pools. I thought they were called the 7 sisters for some reason.

Australia. Definitely want to go back. I loved the animals, nature and the people. It was never dull.

I like to be at home.... Boring, I know.
I've enjoyed going all sorts of other places. But vacationing to me implies relaxing. And nothing's more relaxing for me than being at home.
I really enjoy working in other countries, though.

Everywhere but Paris.
Oh, maybe England, too.

give me a nice warm beach that has sand instead of seashells and I am happy. A couple of jetties for fishing on and calm water for the kids to splash in at the same spot. Granted, the only beach I have visited is the Gulf Coast.

We don't go on vacations. We go visit family but that is definately not relaxing!
We would like to go to Disney sometime in the near future for my DD. She is such a princess fanatic:)
My DH went to Mexico last summer to visit family but we couldn't go with him. I would really love to go to Mexico and see where my DH is from and I would just really love to see the history there.

Silver Jack Reservoir has the best fishing and camping. Or Albuquerque. eta: Or anywhere in New Mexico, for that matter.
We don't really vacation much.

We tend to head out to Nevada mostly, now that we have a boat we are probably going to head out to Lake Powell more often. With DH out because of surgery a lot of the new places we wanted to visit (like New Mexico for one, I keep pestering DH about meeting Neeks and Hidesome) have been put on the backburner.
I would love to go to India, Italy, Coatia, and Canada. My parents took us on a week long fishing trip to Canada when we were little and I would love to go again.

I love the lack of pressure on a vacation. I do not want to have to be anywhere or do anything, I am a fan of the "lazy" vacation. I love love love the beach. I traveled in Mexico, Puerto Vallarta and it was wonderful. South Florida and the Keys are beautiful.
I am going to Las Vegas May 2. Can't wait!

Hawaii, hands down.
Maui was our family vacation spot growing up so I know it like the back of my hand. I want my ashes sprinkled there when I die.
I love Kauai too, dh and I were married on the beach there.

Our family cabin on Lake Chelan. Its very old, no electricity, no plumbing. Water is provided by pipes siphoning off a creek and through a filter. Its amazing. Wonderful. Totally isolated. You can only get there by boat. The water is sparkling and cold, perfect for swimming when its blazingly hot (which it is for most the summer). It has one of the few beach fronts on the entire lake and the sand is white and the water crystal clear. There is an apricot tree. If you come at just the right time, you can pick sun-ripened apricots and they taste like heaven.
The focus point during my last delivery was sitting in a hammock under that tree, hearing the waves lap up against the rocks and the bees buzzing. The splashing of dogs jumping off the dock for a random swims. Feeling perfectly relaxed. Just thinking about it mellows me out!
It is my happiest place on Earth and I haven't been to Paris or many exciting places yet, but I don't think any other place could hold such memories or peace as that place :)

This is going to sound odd, but my sisters house. I can go there and as soon as we start to go up her driveway I can feel my body start to relax. I think mostly it is simply because I can put down all my guards there. I have a hard time doing that in populated areas.
Actually, my worst vacation ever would be a place with a lot of people. Just the thought of a a cruise makes my skin crawl. Plop me down in the middle of nowhere with a nice little place to stay at and I'd be happy.

I've never been outside the US, although I would love to visit Africa, Australia, Canada, Greek Islands, etc.
I absolutely LOVE Miami & the Florida Keys, I would actually like to live there someday. I also really liked Washington DC & surrounding areas in the springtime - so pretty!

I haven't traveled much. I absolutely love the mountains of western North Carolina, and the foothills of South Carolina.

We allow bad backs in New Mexico. You two are welcome anytime, EvilAmy.
As for my favorite places to vacation....hmmm. I think I've got a sort of split personality on that one. I like it here and I always will. I never tire of exploring my own back yard. On the other hand, once I've set off on an adventure someplace, I almost always have a good time and end up thinking to myself, "gee, self, you should do that more often." I am intensely xenophobic, and yet equally intensely fascinated with other cultures, traditions, lifestyles, languages etc. I've always wanted to visit Australia, South Africa, South America etc. I've enjoyed the journey to the top of every mountain I've climbed as well as the hospitality of complete strangers in stange lands. I enjoy visiting battlefields, and have driven cattle fields. I've taken 14 hr non-stop flights, the fastest high speed trains, dirt roads that are 500miles between gas stations, ridden horseback and camelback, and literally crawled across the desert. I've explored lost caves, rivers at night, dive bars, and eaten ju ju fruit, champaign and caviar. I've played chess with Saddam Hussein, and soccer with children who didn't speak a word of English. I've touched whales in the ocean and seen extinct species of birds. I've dined with royalty, intellectuals, harlots, cowboys, priests, weirdos and whinos. It all has a certain appeal. One thing is for sure. I'm not done yet.

I have barely traveled, but I have dreams of visiting Irish pubs and Scottish castles.
Just to be on the safe side, I recommend you visit those in reverse order ;)
