I have a 9 day old baby, I have been exclusively breastfeeding. I have been feeding her every 3 or 4 hours and she seems to only want to feed between 6-10 minutes sometimes up to 15 and usually only one breast. I try to switch her over but she falls asleep.

My question, is this long enough? She has an adequate amount of wet and dirty diapers. I am just concerned that she doesn't seem to be eating much.

My other question, How often should I pump? I am going to stay at home, but I want to pump to make sure my supply is good and so her father can feed her sometimes.

Thanks!

As long as she's gaining weight appropriately, then she's getting enough to eat. At that age, your baby should be gaining 5-8 oz/week. How many poops does she have a day, and what color/consistency are they?

It's recommended that you feed your baby 8-12 times/day. If your baby is not nursing at least 8 times/day, I would try to wake her in order to get more feedings in.

If you don't feel like she's draining your breasts, you can pump for 5-10 minutes after feedings. If your breasts feel soft after feedings, then there is probably no need to pump for maintaining supply. It's recommended that you try to avoid introducing bottles until your baby is around 4-6 weeks old.
