I am having some issue with my airplace fabric that I am a little upset about but I guess I have to get over it. It keeps stretching and easily rips. I bought it off ebay and love the print but the material leaves a lot to be desired.

Anyway...here it is

Special thanks to those of you that helped with the pattern and to Quilty for her instructions on her blog. (http://mamacatbluequilts.blogspot.com/2009/01/raggy-quilt-instructions.html)

I always make things harder for myself by choosing fabrics that aren't easy. I wanted there to be different textures though because J is very into that.

Looks good.
If the airplane fabric rips easily, it may be old and dried out--even could be dry rotted. That's a problem with older fabrics. I hope that isn't the case and now that it's in the quilt it will be stabilized enough. If you have leftovers and want to make say a pillow cover to go with the quilt, I would stabilize it with fusible interfacing on the back and then sew with it.

I want to touch the textured fabric. Fondle it even.

Your boy is so cute. When did he get so big?!

The material isn't old Amy, just stretchy and when it stretches too far, it stays that way.

Hamm- if you have any of the airplane fabric left, try washing it and then drying it on as high heat as it will tolerate. It helps to make the stretchy part snap back.

It turned out great!

My first attempt at a pillow was in 8th grade. The top of the pillow was like a quilt. The material was very difficult to work with (plus the school sewing machine sucked). It made me convinced that I can't sew, so I haven't attempted anything with a machine since.

did you wash the fabric before using it?
Sometimes that helps with the over stretchiness, or do as jessiehanna suggested.
usually stretchy fabric that stretches and doesn't go back into shape is because the stretchy fibers in the material are cheap quality, or they are old and the "elastic" has lost it's oomph.

I didn't wash it first but I believe the stretching actually may have happened in the wash. I don't recall it being stretched while I was sewing it. I am contemplating complaining about it to the seller. Not sure how I should word it or really what I would expect to get out of it. I am just not happy with it.

Thats awesome Hamm :) I also have to thank quilty for sharing her instructions with me! I need to finish clipping the seams on my pink monkey blanket. I do like, one row and then my hand hurts so i have to quit. My friends baby is due in a couple weeks, and we are moving across the country in less than a month, so i really need to get on it lol! BTW, I love the textured fabric you used :)
