*sigh*
Ok. I've never been one to wear makeup very often. I just didn't want to bother, and when I did I'd sweat it off, etc.
I have a good complexion as far as not getting pimples much, but I HAVE noticed that I have blotchy pigmentation now that I never had before. I have fair skin with a lot of pink to it (natural blond hair and pale eyebrows/lashes).
I'm 40 years old... and right now I have very dark brown (nearly black) hair. I'm looking for some sort of foundation to wear by itself. I do use a good moisturizer already. I need something that goes on easily and won't be thick or feel like I'm wearing a mask. I do have somewhat sensitive skin.
I can't afford the department store or specialty stuff... think more in the line of drugstore.
Any suggestions? I'd prefer a creme to powder or something else like that. Mainly I want to even out skin tone and protect my skin as well (SPF is good!).
I'll be paying attention to the advice you're given...they've discontinued the Origins makeup that I've used for close to 10 years!

If Bare Minerals or Pur Minerals makeup would be a little too expensive, I'd go with a mineral makeup at the drug store. I've used Loreal in a pinch and it covered fairly well. I've also got some red blotches so coverage is important to me, too. Really, though,Bare Minerals is my favorite. I got a kit on sale last year and still have most of it, save for one thing I've had to replace.
I've also found that the makeup brushes I use make a HUGE difference in how the makeup goes on and stays on. I've got a ton from being an esthetician , but I found a packet of brushes at Target for like 10 bucks that work pretty damn well! Kabukibrushes are the best for mineral makeup foundation and then a smaller , flat brush is good to swirl and tap and then pat on any blemishes and/or redness. It's more condensed this waya nd can cover those imperfections.
I will now get on the Philosophy soapbox, LOL! I've been using their skincare for a month and what a HUGE difference!! It has reduced all of my fine lines and my redness is practically non existant now. It's also very gentle on my skin. It is kind of spendy, but a little goes a looooooooooong way. Right now they have a kit that is either$76 or $78 and includes cleanser, firming serum, moisturizer, and eye cream. If you were to get 2 of those products alone it would cost just about as much. It also contains sample packets of a microdermabrasion scrub that is AWESOME!! It makes your makeup go on sooooo much more smoothly and evenly, too.I can't say enough good things about it!

I'm very fair also. If I do get a pimple, it is red and you can see where it was even when it is gone. I've never been able to find makeup that matched my skin tone AND stayed on until recently. I also have a rosy cheeks. It is great, but sometimes I want to tone them down a little.
Believe it or not, I am in love with Mary Kay's cream to powder foundation. I do use their concealer too and it works wonders. I always thought that they were pricey, but after I saw how little you have to use to get coverage, I understand why it is so good. Their highlighter stuff is to die for also.
ETA: Their 3 in one face cleanser is awesome too. You really only need a little bit. The only thing I found from them that is bad for my skin is their makeup remover. I used some that the rep gave to me and it really bothered my skin under my eyes.

I use Mary Kay 3 in one cleanser, and a good moisturizer.
The skin uneven pigment looks like clusters of freckles. One area really worries me, and I need to have it evaluated by a dermatologist (my dad had skin cancer).

Since you are forty, i will recommend Lauren Hutton make up. She doesnt believe women over 40 should use foundation. It comes in a kit and it comes with a DVD to show you how to use it all. We got my mom using it at 48 and she loves it.
It is pricey to buy the first kit, but after that the refills arent so bad.

Since you already use MK I would recommend their foundation. I haven't used it in a long time since I was using BM, but I did really like their foundation.

I use a tinted moisturizer with SPF in lieu of foundation. I love that it's all one step. It's very light and is perfect for evening out skin tone. It's not going to hide problem areas though.
I rarely wear make-up, but I do wear this daily.
For the times that I do wear make-up (bare minerals) I wear this underneath. Since it's a moisturizer too, it makes my make-up go on smoother and I find I don't need as much foundation as I would without it.
I use this - http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?skuId=2165491&productId=xlsImpprod890616&navAction=push&navCount=1&categoryId=cat80026
A pea sized amount covers my whole face, so a bottle lasts a long time.
I've also used Clinique's version and like it as well - http://www.clinique.com/templates/products/sp_shaded.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY4918&PRODUCT_ID=PROD7982
A quick search showed that Aveeno and Neutrogena have versions of tinted moisturizer with SPF. You might want to start there. :)

I'd recommend a tinted moisturizer. It's comfortable. It's easy to apply.
But the minerals lines are easy to wear, also. FWIW I rarely wear makeup, other than eyebrow pencil and lip gloss (also I have eyeliner tattooed on.) But when I do wear makeup for day wear, I use a minerals type product.
But I get enough makeup for performances that I don't care to wear it the rest of the time. A makeup artist can make my face look like twenty different people with the right stuff, and I've decided I like my actual face most of the time.

I have the same Stila tinted moisturizer, Kassandra, but on my face it seems to be really, really shiny (sort of oily) and then I have to use Mineral Veil or some powder thing. I was really bummed, too, because I got it so I wouldn't have to wear anything like that! It's odd because I think my skin is fairly dry and not at all oily.
I really do like BareMinerals ,though, for good coverage for the redness but w/o looking and feeling heavy.

I'm almost 35, so my skin is drier than when I was in my 20s - I also use Retin-A which is drying. I don't have any issues with it being oily. :)

I don't wear make-up daily since I can break out in a sweat in the greenhouse and things just melt off (or get wiped off onto my sleeves)
I'm one for tinted moisturizer. I also like Loreal's tru match, it's been great at evening out my complexion. Used to wear MK but since my connection no longer sells it, I don't buy it.
Does anybody know of a melt-proof eyeliner? I love my black eyeliner but waterproof doesn't mean melt-proof so I've learned the hard way .

I refuse to wear makeup on a daily basis, but I will end up using something to even out the skin. I'll look into the tinted moisturizers, thanks!
The Lauren Hutton stuff would NEVER work for me, it would be a waste of money. I'd never use all that stuff.

Avon has a good mineral line... not quite as good as bare minerals but really, really close. ;-)
They also have some new tinted moisturizers out now that are very nice from the mark line up..
Same quality as department store (even according to the Clinique and Lancome fans that are my mom and sis) and at a drugstore price. AND it's all 100% returnable if you don't like them.
If you want to look them up via my website pm me and I'll give you the address... yes, I'm an Avon rep. ;-)

This is one of the things that interested me in my permanent eyeliner. It's not necessarily something you might want- but maybe! I love mine. Understated, never melts or smudges. My contacts and minor allergies are never an issue.

I've looked at it and know of several EMT's that had it done (one of the EMTs does make-up tatoos and ran a sepcial for coworkers). I just can't bring myself to do it, I like to wear it thickly lined and after so many years with the usual bleeding that can happen. I would be walking around with "I slept in my makeup coon eyes" that can't be washed away.

I'll admit I'm a huge fan of Avon (My liners are Avon waterproof glimmerstick and a couple of Kohl stubby pencils that was in the Outlet). I also love their personal match foundation in Dark, it's perfect for me in the summer. I waer heavenly soft eyeshadow in brown (also have greens, blues, and orchid). I love the Botanicals as well. I was also addicted to the whole Anew line, it seriously rocked my skin. But since I no longer sell (I had to give it up since I spend too much time w/ my greenhouse) and the person I used to buy from ripped my MIL off (Not in Avon but something else) I haven't bought anymore. As you can tell I stocked up when on sale or else I would really be whining. ;)
