If she sees her brother or I drinking them, she demands a sip. They're shiny - that was the original draw, I know - but then she got ahold of one and stuck the straw in her mouth and the rest is history.
(No, she doesn't get her own - she occasionally cons a sip of mine or her brothers with those big blue eyes - then I quickly try to distract her with a sippy of water. Sometimes I let her suck on an empty one if I'm close enough to supervise.)
She goes around now sometimes making a squeaky noise and a fishy face - a straw related skill, I think - it's really cute.
Among other updates - she will walk while I hold her hands - but isn't cruising around furniture or standing on her own yet.
She just cut the 4th tooth - the right top front & she's a biter.
