She signed "More" just now!
She has done other movements like waving - but we'd speculate on whether she meant it or not.
Now she's finishing my oatmeal for me because she keeps signing "more".
I'm so excited & proud!

:clap::clap:Yay for you and her!!! I used the Signing Smart program with my daughter and it said if you're not sure if it is a sign or not treat it as if it is but keep showing her the sign and it will help her to learn the sign. Also I don't know if you know this or not, but its all about approximations too. So when she waves that can also be an attempt to sign another word (depending on what signs you're teaching her) or it could also be a sign she made up.

We have been treating the wave as "bye bye", but she uses it randomly, too - sometimes as a dance move, lol.
I think DS's first sign was "more" too - closely followed by "milk" and "all done".
DS made up a couple of signs - I think he had a hybrid sign - milk and something else, but I don't remember exactly what.

That's awesome! Just a few weeks ago, Anne started signing milk. Do you have a link (I lost all my bookmarks) for common signs to teach babies?

Very cool! People would be surprised to see how babies have their own signs that they do around a certain time or thing. My niece made up a family sign for poop when she was 8 months.
DS1's first sign was food and DS2's first sign was please. I love watching them do sign language. DS1 makes up signs for my sister. lol They'll go through a book and DS1 will point at the picture and she'll teach him the sign.

Here's one site that shows how to do the signs - video dictionary style.

Really, you have to choose which signs are important in your world.
Mommy
Daddy
Milk
Drink
Hungry/Eat
More
All Done
were what we started with - then I followed what DS was interested in or exposed to to learn what else to teach him.
fish
dog
cat
airplane
banana
cookie
etc.
Oh, yeah, and please & thank you, too.

It helps when you want to discipline on public and you don't want to draw attention.
Or if you are dating and out with your sister and she is asking you about your new boyfriend..or if you all have to go to the bathroom... The whole boyfriend thing happened, but it also was weird because my bf at the time was with his brother and then gf. She was staring at us and I thought it was a little rude, until she signed back. LOL She was watching in on our conversation..which was not polite, but thankfully I didn't say anything too incriminating.
ETA: I believe we have some baby sign language options on here.

lol, still me - technically you were not being polite conversing in front of them without the intent for them to understand.

True. We were out listening to my BIL's band, so I can try to justify it with that. ;)

Yay!
Sam has jut starting doing what I call the grabby grabby. SHe will put her arms up in the air and make a grab motion with both hands. It either means she wants what you have, or she wants you to pick her up. DD1 understood what she wanted the first time she did it, so I think it is pretty cool.

That is wonderful.
Ian just started using "more please" this morning. I was jumping up and down with excitement, and then he just laughed at me.
We love the Signing Time videos. Our library carries them.
Buddha doesn't sign much without a lot of reminding (which I suck at since I have a terrible memory), but he does sign a few things, like "milk," "more," "all done," etc.
