I am doing my masters in Health and Wellness and need to have 300 lactation hours to be able to sit for the IBCLC test. I am planning to give these cards out to local WIC offices and pedis in areas with low income families who cannot afford to see a IBCLC LC. I offer to go see the women for free at their house to help them with breastfeeding issues. I'll have a supervising IBCLC to turn to if I am working with a woman whose issues I cannot address. The title is CLC which I will have by June and is given to students who train intensively for a week. Most WIC in-house counselors are CLC with an IBCLC on staff.

Which card do you like better? The one with the gray frame (which I only added because the card would be white) has an image I pulled from the net and I am waiting to see if I could use the image. The second one is my son nursing at only a few weeks old.

They are both very nice, I vote #2, with less white and more color, I think it is more eye catching.

Depending on the demographics of the people you will be working with, a picture of a baby nursing may turn them off from keeping your card and calling you. I would use a more generic and discrete and more professional looking business card that includes an address, phone numbers and qualifications.

Will the Wic offices and Pediatrician's offices give out these business cards if you are not an IBCLC?

Will the IBCLC you are working under allow you to give our her name and info for verification of your status with Wic offices or Pediatrician's offices?

As an aside, should an LC or IBCLC, or CLC have malpractice insurance?

I will have personal malpractice insurance. WIC now uses CLC's to counsel their women. For low income mothers IBCLCs are often not an option. So for a mom who wants to nurse and has problems, a pedi might be willing to work with me. I am not sure how I will go about it but I think I'll just knock on doors and sit with them to explain my plan and see how it goes :).

I like the second one, but I think a more discreet image would be better as well.

Second one, especially since it's your baby.
Congrats on your upcoming certification!

I like the pictures but I have to agree that a more discrete one would look more professional. Good luck on the CLC course I took it about 2yrs ago and it was very interesting.

Congrats on your upcoming certification!

I have to clarify - I am in a Master's program that will take another 2.5 years. Only after that will I be eligible to sit for the IBCLC exam and only if I can manage to get 300 lactation hours. So the cards are something I will use to be able to see more moms; handing them out to WIC offices and pedis in low income neighborhoods. I will have a supervising IBCLC working with me.

My WIC office not only allowed non-IBCLC's to hand out business bards but printed them for us!

I like the second one for the same reasons other stated. ima have you worked in the WIC office? It's an experience!

I started working at one but couldn't deal with the crappy info the nutritionist gave out to new moms. I felt I was too new to say something. Besides, I spent too many hours hanging around and observing and not enough seeing moms. While it was very interesting I cannot afford to put in non-LC related volunteer hours right now. I need to either study or clock hours.
