My child was diagnosed with multiple protein allergies after I pumped and fed her breastmilk for two months. As a result, the doctor advised me that I could no longer consumer any dairy or soy products. I tried to remove these items from my diet and continue to pump. Unfortunately, my child would not take from the breast and my supply dwindled. So we began an amino acid based formula, but to be honest the formula is expensive and because there is no lactose in it, it is full of corn syrup. I would love to resume pumping, is it physically possible to produce milk at this time?? I am aware of supplements to increase the supply such as, fenugreek. Is there any way possible to stop feeding this stuff to my child? She will only begin solids shortly...so I am concerned that she will need a lot of formula for awhile .

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Lisa

Breasts that make milk can make more milk. How old is your baby? Resuming pumping will be a great way to bring your supply back in. i agree with trying to get her off the formula if possible.

My daughter is 5 months old corrected ( seven weeks premature). The only problem is that I am not sure if she will ever nurse. She always latched, but then nothing. She would just cry. She didn't want to do any work. They wouldn't let me nurse her until three weeks had passed in the NICU. But I do know many premies that went through the same thing and they learned to nurse.

Can you find a lactation consultant (IBCLC)? SHe can learn to nurse.
