Good read. Not surprisingly, New Mexico is dead last in the rankings. Education doesn't mean much in the land of manana.

68% of fourth graders aren't reading at grade level (worse than that in many states including mine). I wish I could say that I'm surprised. :(
The developing countries break my heart, but there's really no excuse in the US. I would like to see a direct comparison between teenage pregnancy rates and school failure rates in communities. Based on what I saw as a teacher, there is a huge correlation.

Judy this shocked the hell out of me. I live in CT and was happy to see it as #1 but then just about fell on the floor when I saw that 59% of fourth graders were not reading at grade level....

I easily guessed the top five states and most of the bottom ten.
It's a shame that even in the top states, most kids are not reading on grade level.
