I've found these in my house, too, but these pictures were taken by my niece at her house (at my sister's house). The spider is actually quite small even though it doesn't look like it in the picture. To give you an idea of the size, it's on one of those small styrofoam bowls. It has four pairs of legs, but the front pair look more like claws than like regular spider legs.

We have those around here. I am pretty sure it is some type of Jumping Spider.
DH says they are jumping spiders. I've seen them before, but never looked that closely. When I would take a smoke break at a place I worked in FL, I'd watch them chase flies. I'm an arachnophobe, but these don't scare me. They were smaller than a quarter.

We have those in Ohio. Fiesty little things and they can jump short distances. I'm not sure what they are called, I just know they will stand off to fight you though.

It appears to be a part of the Genus Metacyrba family, aka jumping spider. ;)

We just relocated one of those out of our bathroom the other night. I thought he looked kind of like a scorpion too.

You've never seen a jumping spider? They are all over here in California. And yes they jump. I've never seen them jump At a person, though, except for my father when he would try and kill them. Nothing is worse than seeing a spider jump from the ceiling onto your dad's face when he is trying to kill it.

My niece thought it was a scorpion, too, but I knew it wasn't a scorpion.
It's funny that it's called a jumping spider because I told my niece and sister that I didn't know what it was called but that it was some kind of jumping spider. I didn't know that's what it was really called.

Thank God, no. I hope to keep it that way, too.

maksmom, they're really kind of cool. Just know that if you're trying to be nice and put it on/in something so that you can take it outside, it won't cooperate!

Scorpion's don't look like that we have clear one's where I live and they are longer then wider. Just looks like a harmless spider to me just move them outside so not to lay eggs in the houses.
I will not kill it it is bad luck to kill them in the house.;) I only kill black widows & brown raquise

Not to mention it's completely lacking a tail.

Good point! I missed that, duh...

I agree that they are kind of cool. It's fun to watch them hunt flies.
FTR, I'm typically the type of person to either kill a spider or run away screaming for DH to handle it. However, the jumping spiders I've seen are very small. They have very odd movements, too.

Yes, they make odd, fast mechanical-like movements.

The variety of these that we have here in Bako are very similar looking..kinda like a baby tarantula, but they have greenish things on their head, I guess it is their eyes. Creepy, but they eat flies and stuff, so they are ok in my book.

Yes, Bakersfield. Sorry it took me a while to reply. It is my b-day and we had family over and went swimming :)

Totally a jumping spider. Ours are black and white and they crunch like crazy when you kill them. You have to make sure you smash them really good though because either they can flatten out well, or really do have a hard shell like thing on their body.
BTW, I've been jumped by a jumping spider before. I screamed so loud that it died instantly. I kid you not. Kinda like how I yelled yesterday at a bonfire when a spider came down from a tree and into my shirt.

Still, that's too funny that you killed the spider by screaming. :D I'm the same way about spiders; they scare the crap out of me. I jerked my neck out of place one day when I walked out the back door straight into the web of a huge garden spider.

*shudder* That would freak me out! DS2 walked into a web one day and it strung across his face. He completely lost it and for a while would swing sticks to make sure nothing was in front of him.
