Ds2 turned 2 in Feb and is still nursing (yay!). Problem is I think his latch is getting sloppy or something because last night when he was nursing on my L breast it hurt so freaking bad. While I was pg (I miscarried about a week ago) I expected some nipple tenderness, but I'm obviously not pg anymore, so what the heck is going on?

Since that one very painful nursing session he has nursed just fine on both sides several times with no pain at all. But I notice thismorning a pinkish irritated spot on my L areaola where I think his teeth were rubbing on my skin. I guess I just want some advice on how to avoid this in the future as it was extremely painful.

You've just got to watch positioning. I think as new teeth start to come in, a child's latch will alter a bit. Usually a different position will help make it not hurt.

I'm nursing my 2-year old as well and if something hurts I very calmly get her to let go and then let her try again. She's the kind of kid that if I yelled "ow!" she would crack up, so I have to be subtle about making latch changes.

Yeah, it only seems to hurt in one position when I am sitting and he is lying in my lap. There is never any pain when we lie down to nurse. The same thing happened last night when I was sitting on the couch again with him lying in my lap. Maybe we'll just have to avoid that position for now, at least until my nipple heals.

Thanks ladies; it's good to know I'm not alone. :)
