Dds 6th birthday is next week and I really have no idea what to do for her. The problem is that we just moved into a new neighborhood a month ago. It is military housing in a cul-de-sac of townhouses. Every single unit here has kids (required because its 3 bedroom units). I am friendly with all the other moms I have seen around the playground and outside, but I certainly dont know anyone well and there are some moms that I honestly dont want to get to know more than on a casual friendly basis. Dd really wants to have a couple kids over for her party, but I cant invite the whole neighborhood, and since we will most likely be bbq-ing outside in our backyard, we will be pretty obvious. Any suggestions on how to handle this?

Invite who you want. If people don't understand not inviting the whole neighborhood then it's their problem.

just invite the kids your dd wants at her party, but if the kids on either side of you are close to her age, i would invite them.
