Hi!! I'm new here!
My name is Janice and I have a one year old daughter named Cory. I am also 8 weeks pregnant!
I have been BF all along but recently my daughter has become so distractible that she doesn't want to nurse, except for first thing in the AM. We have been giving her a bottle of EBM at night (my milk was slow to let down then) but otherwise have not used bottles.

Issue is...I am getting pressure from my OB to wean due to risk of PTL and Cory seems so distractible now, I am wondering if she is trying to wean herself? She'll only suck on the boob a minute and then push away! (but then take a bottle 30 mins later no problem!).I am planning on still nursing first thing in the AM (the only time DD doesn't fight it..I don't think once a day could hurt, don't tell my OB!) but would like to phase out at least the 12pm and 3pm feeds. Problem is, while my daughter eats solids like a champ-full on adult food now..she doesn't get that she can drink more than an ounce at a time out of a sippy. She can use a sippy and I offer it at all 3 meals but she doesn't take in the quantity she needs to (like she does with a bottle). It's like she doesn't get this is her "baba" you know?

So...how do I start replacing BF with a cup of milk if she won't take in any significant amount? I am afraid of her getting dehydrated. Will she just naturally take more when I stop BF?

How do I do it? Sit her down with a sippy full of whole milk at 3pm and let her go at it? I am going to go buy several varieties of sippies today...

I pump every AM after she feeds and get her nighttime bottle at that time. I thought about keeping the first AM feed and the nighttime EBM bottle indefinitly. I have no previous PTL risks...

Suggestions???? I don't want to offer her bottles all the time and then have to wean from the bottle!!

Thank you!!

I would give her water. But want to make sure I know what PTL is.

PTL = preterm labor

Unless you have a history of PTL or have been told not to have sex or orgasms, there is no threat of PTL from nursing. So are YOU wanting to wean, or just your OB?

Tifttu is right you only need to stop if you are at risk for it. Your OB could be an idiot. Oh look now I am name calling ;)

I am not a doctor but I refuse to believe that breastfeeding while pregnant will result in a miscarriage or pre-term labor. Women have been having babies while breastfeeding for thousands of years.

It is sad that so few woman breastfeed that docs know nothing about it and think it is not worth teaching in med schools.

I nursed throughout my pregnancy. For most of us, it's perfectly safe. My understanding is that if your Dr. says it's okay for you to have sex while pregnant, then it's also okay for you to nurse.

I'm in a similar situation with my 1 yr. old. He will drink water out of a sippy cup but not milk. I want to wean him from the day time sessions as well. This is the 2nd day of cutting out the late morning nursing. I've offered him goats milk with his snack and he takes a few sips and makes a face and will usually only try it once more....then he's done with it.
