lots of help on the kellymom site.
try try again is the best thing, try different times of day, try starting a feeding with the shield, stop, remove it and then restart nursing without it, try starting without a shield and put it back in place if baby won't nurse. It will probably take at least 2 dozen times to get it figured out which way will work best for you and then about that many days to completely get rid of the nipple shield, but it can be done. You have to be more stubborn than baby.

I used one for a month as well, after my nipple confused preemie refused to latch on without one. I had the greatest success after nursing on the first side, once your baby develops a rhythm, it will be easier to convince her.
I would use the pump on my nipple, priming it for five minutes, then it was pointy and very easy to grab onto. Are you using breast shells between feedings to help your nipples protrude?
You may have to go through a certain amount of hysterics before baby will finally consent to nursing without. Knowing what you are dealing with, WRT nipple confusion will help you understand: www.breastfeeding.com/all_about/all_about_confusion.html
You can also use breast compression, to help baby empty the breast: www.kellymom.com/newman/15breast_compression.html
