So... I was battling thrush that I just couldn't get to go away. Gentian violet, OTC yeast creams, yogurt, and probiotics reduced the redness, itching, and irritation but it never really went away.

Between the 2 girls sharing toys and the one time I nursed my niece when my sister was gone out hunting with my dad (she was hysterical and was not having her cup or any food) my sister came down with a case too.

She used vinegar to clear it up... it was gone in 2 days! I guess she had heard to use diluted vinegar after every nursing and swab it on with a cotton ball. Well, she used full strength vinegar and soaked her breasts in it for as long as she could stand. She did it 2 days in a row, waited 2 days, and then started slathering on the Lansinoh for a couple days. She did say that it burned like hell. lol

I decided to go ahead and try it... it took me 3 days before I couldn't stand the burning sensation of the vinegar anymore. I poured 2 small plastic cups about half fullI probably soaked each side for 10-15 minutes each night at bedtime. All the dryness and chapping disappeared in just a couple days and I have been fine ever since.

I'm thrilled that it seems to have worked but I am wondering if anyone else had heard this or used it.

Yes, I have heard of success with it. Although my DD got a rash in the diaper area chronically and I wouldn't use it there because of the intense burning. GSE is a sae alternative that is just as effective, can also be used as a preventative without harm to mom or baby. I used to spritz myself daily, to ward off thrush.

I've used GSE with success. No vinegar here for me, that sounds painful:(

some women find that rinsing their nipples with diluted vinegar, as well as rinsing their bras in vinegar helps ward off thrush if you catch it early enough.

I also suffered from persistent thrush. I used vinegar in conjunction with GV and Antifungal Cream. I put it on full strength only once not because it stung like heck but because it dried out my nipples even more making the cracks that started the whole ordeal much worse.
I had such an experiencel with thrush that it prompted me to write about how I cleared it up.
