Here she is. What's going on with her skin? It's not so much acne any more. It's blotchy and red, but it goes away. Her skin isn't smooth ever anymore. It's rough. I can't tell if it bothers her. She rubs it on me, but I don't know if it's about her skin or something else. Ideas? It's on the back of her neck sometimes too.

Your description reminds me of hives I got on my face before my wedding. Looks like an allergic reaction. Trip to the pediatrician?

Looks like, and sounds like a contact reaction to me. Detergent, soaps, etc. Did you go all C&F on everything? Re wash all sheets, blankets, clothes in c&f. DS could not touch our carpet without having contact skin reactions also.
she is a cuttie pie!

Looks allergic to me too. Eczema maybe?
One of my docs suggested aquaphor for DD's eczema, but the Vanicream KatieLou recommended works soooo much better and easier. The rash is still there, but she isn't scratching holes in it and it isn't spreading anymore either.

Clear and free. Baby detergent, even Drift is not Clear and free. It still has dyes and perfumes in it. Both of my kiddos react to baby detergents. We use All Clear and Free for everything. Also baby skin products are full of dyes, perfumes, and chemicals, that she could also be reacting too. Avenno may work, although it did not for my kiddos, it is very gentle. I would try C&F on everything and you may see a huge improvment in her skin!

A C&F detergent is Clear and Free from all dyes and perfumes. We use ALL (brand name All) Clear and Free. Cetaphil has many nut oils in it as well. I would reccomend maybe a Vanicream for her. You will have to ask for it as it is not stacked on shleves, and you may have to order it, but it is not very pricey!
Most of the time Ijust use Aquaphor as far as lotion goes. It is yucky and they are greasy but I just put it on them before bedtime.

I use All Clear and Free too. I also tried the cetaphil lotion but it didn't really feel like it hydrated all that well. I still think you should go with the vanicream (my walgreens had it). It even has a pump so you don't have to fool with a cap wtih slimy hands.

Looks like contact dermatitis to me, too. First thing I'd try is just wiping her face off with a wet washcloth and see if it improves. Is it only facial, or is it all over?
My last LO had a similar contact rash on her face. Eventually I figured out that she was getting MY lotion on her face from leaning against my arms or belly. I changed lotions, started wiping her face down gently, and it disappeared within hours.

i've tried wiping it. can't see much difference. maybe some smoother but redder too. i don't use anything on me that would touch her. nothing on my face or upper body at all - unless it's from my hair - even there i use baby shampoo. it's her face and back of her neck. today it seems to be in her scalp some too. dh recently added salt to the water softener. could that be it?

Not trying to be repetitive at all. But many children, and adults for that matter will react to things like baby shampoo. My kids can not use any "baby" products at all. Just because it is labeld for baby does not mean it is extra sesnitive. Even the sesitive products still have scents, dyes, and perfumes in them.

That makes sense. I guess I'm just wondering if that's what's happened to her. Why all of the sudden is she reacting to something? I guess I just feel like she should be reacting to a change - not the same detergent or shampoo I've been using since before she was born. She doesn't have much contact with my hair anyway. I always wear it up. Anyway - can it happen that way? Can she suddenly be sensitive to the products I've always used? I tried giving her a sponge bath tonight - just water, and I used angel baby shampoo on her hair. It's organic with no dyes or fragrance. I'm hoping she looks better in the morning. Her face looked pretty red after, but then it seemed smoother and the red went away some. I don't know. I can rewash everything with the All free and clear. It's what I used to use anyway. I just want to make it better.

You can start reacting to something at any point in your life. Brody used regular baby wash just fine untill he was about 4 months old, and then one day he just broke out in hives from head to toe. He was a little rough skined before but nothing major.
Of course it is wise to see what new things you have been using but just like a food allergy she can develop a sensitivity to anything over time.
You can also try California Baby products which are great, don't work for my kiddos who are super reactive, but it works for many many sensitive people.

All Free and Clear is the only thing we can wash DD's clothes and blankies in. I love this detergent:)
Jacksmommy, how is her skin looking now? Is it better or worse? What a beautiful baby you have.

She looks pretty much the same, but I haven't had a chance to buy new detergent yet. I'll go tonight after dh comes home and get some. On the plus side I stopped having dairy products a week or so ago on the chance it was effecting her skin. It hasn't done anything for her skin, but her fussy period in the evening went away immediately.
