Hello and thank you so much for your time!

I am 6 months pregnant with a boy YEAH!!!!!! I AM SO EXCITED!!! and this is my 3rd child! With my first two girls they latched on ok after practice and my breasts became very sore! They bled and cracked. I took my first daughter in to a lactation nurse and found out she was losing so much weight so she wasn't getting enough milk! My 2nd child was the same thing!

I am determined and I will do anything! I just need some help with trying to figure out a way I can breast feed this child! I REALLY WANT TO!!! The lactation nurse I had with both my girls thought that I wasn't producing enough milk and I just want to prepare better for this baby! PLEASE HELP ME!!! Do you have ANY suggestions at all! I would appreciate that so much!!

Thank you so much!!!!
Julia

Welcome and congratulations on your pregnancy!

It is most important to make sure baby is latched on properly. That will help to prevent cracked nipples and to ensure baby is getting enough milk. Some soreness is normal but severe pain and cracked, bleeding nipples is not normal.

If your baby is not latched on correctly then the baby may not be able to effectively get enough milk out (it's not that you are not producing enough, baby is just not getting it out). Now if is goes on long enough it can eventually affect your milk supply.

My suggestion would be to read up and watch some videos on latching baby on correctly and how to know when baby is latched on properly. If after the baby gets here you feel you are having problems get help ASAP by a IBCLC or a La leche league leader in your area.

I'll post some links for you to read in a minute.

Awww thanks so much!!
I really appreciate your link that is awesome and very very helpful!!

I remembered a couple things!
I pumped while breastfeeding and when I would pump I couldn't pump enough milk at all for one feeding it took me all day to just get enough for one feeding!
That's why I was told I wasn't producing enough milk. hmmm any other great advice you got I will take!!
THANK YOU!!!!

Pumping is not at all a good indicator of how much milk you are producing or how much your baby is eating. A baby's suck is much more effective than a pump and always gets more milk out than a pump.

I'll try to write more later. I have to get back to work!
