View Full Version : If you could design a political party,...

what characteristics would it have?

I'm always hearing (and reading) people say that they don't like any of the political parties, so I started thinking more about this. What would your ideal party be like?

It would be further left than the dems. Lol.

It would be full of people who were too classy to call names or deliberately spread misinformation.

Honest politicians who always followed thru, and supporters who got out there and really worked for thier party, not just bitched about other parties on their message boards ;)

Other than Paw (thanks, Paw! :D), so you don't care where the party stands socially or fiscally as long as it's honest? You don't care about foreign policy or anything else?

No I do, I just don't have the time or energy right this minute to write it all out. That was my feeble attempt at humor I guess.

ETA- now that I have thought for a minute, I realize the question was about my "ideal" party, but if there were ever a party that was truly transparent and honest, whether or not my values alligned with thiers, that would be refreshing. Ok goodnight moon :)

We all need humor. :D

I'd like my party to be somewhere more in the middle of what we have now. I'm so stinking stuck in the middle and I bet there are a lot of people who are. Leaders who are not afraid to go against the grain as long as they stay moral. Someone who shows an interest in what is going on around the world but is focused on the things going on here.

I'm not saying that some of these things are not happening now just saying that I'd like to have that in my party.

Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right, Here I am , Stuck in the middle with You , Crabbie.

I don't care for the main two parties primarily because it seems that most of the focus of either one seems to be "how do we wreck the other guys so we get to be elected next time." I dislike just having two choices in an election. I especially dislike feeling that I only have one extreme or another to choose.

I like a lot of the Libertarian's party platforms ( not the repeal the income tax one).

I am sick to death of hearing Politicians talk about Gay marriage and Abortion. IMO, those are "NUNYA Beeswax" categories, and nobody should have decision making rights over someone else in those areas. It isn't really vital the the country's well being for the government to sort out who should/shouldn't .

I don't like big coorporate affiliations in politicians, and I don't like career politicians. I'd rather see people serve an office as mayor, state rep, school board, whatever for a term, and go back to their regular lives and give somebody else a turn. So time spent in office can really be spent working on things that need to be handled and not spent making connections to get an in to the next level of office, trading favors to make nice with lobbyist and special interest groups.

Some common sense would be good too. Big ol' pile of Joe ordinary common sense.

I am very in the middle and I tend to lean Libertarian on many issues. Quilty's post is an ideal set-up in my mind.

Quilty, based on what you posted, we could be in the same party (except I don't like the Libertarian party). The problem is that Mr./Ms. Ordinary will never have a chance at a big election.

Absolute separation of church and state. NO prayer in public schools, no bible or religion classes of any kind in public schools. No 10 commandments in public buildings.

Foreign policy would be... be kind to other countries, but deal with OUR country's problems FIRST.

The party would also be trying to raise wages universally for teachers, police and fire and EMS, and stay-at-home moms should have a monthly stipend as well.

That is something my ideal government would also deal with. I think there should be a rule against the amount of money needed to run for office; at least in the beginning. I do not think it should be a popularity contest that only wealthy people can apply for (or succeed at).

I totally agree!

I don't know how I feel about a monthly stipend for SAHMs/SAHDs. However, I definitely feel that SAHMs or SAHDs should not be penalized by the social security system for staying home to raise their children, which is what happens now.

I've often speculated about a monthly contribution to retirement or SS in some form for SAHPs.

No HST. That would make me happy right about now. I am pretty pissed about that.

You can actually do that on your own, but most families can't afford it.

Maybe. Maybe other people are as sick of Slick Politicianness as I am. I can hope.

I suppose if we are designing our party, we could go ahead and fix what we don't like. I guess between the two of us we'd have a good balance and could come up with a nice compromise.

I make a motion first thing we do is put Dave Ramsey in charge of the national budget.

The problem is that Mr./Ms. Ordinary doesn't have the advertising power to get his/her name and positions out there. Any suggestions on changing that?

As long as he doesn't push his Christian views into the government. ;)

Internet Blog? It could happen.

I don't think there could ever be one ideal political party because even people that agree on most things are going to find that they still disagree on others.

I did one of those political tests and it said I aligned most with the Libertarian Party and while I agree with some of their political stances, I certainly don't agree with all. The same as my feelings in regards to the Democrats and Republicans. Although I think as I've grown older I lean more left on social issues and programs that help people.

I know what my ideal President would look like, but not necessarily the ideal party.

It sounds too cliche to just say that I want world peace, right?

I could get behind the Quilty party. I would really love a more moderate party. I don't have a problem with foreign aid programs, they are such a tiny slice of our budget, but by Gum I'd love to have balanced budgets.

And I'd love to have a party that would kick out the wacky idiots who have no connection with reality. Like the birthers; why even put up with them?

I had to google "Birthers." :p I'd never heard them called that.
