I'm sure you can see it online after the fact.
I wonder why they didn't, after all the backlash, have him present it in the evening so that parents could watch it with their kids.
Doesn't matter to me...just sayin'...

The first thing that comes to mind is that this speech is not for adults, it is for the students. Where else will he ever have the opportunity to talk to a majority of students besides during school?
Most families that I know are busy in the evening. Between people having jobs, practice for extracurricular activities, and the daily hustle and bustle of getting home from work and making dinner, *I* believe it would be hard. Plus, most people can record this.
I liked the speech. I think it is great that someone is saying this to the generation of kids in school right now. A lot of parents are not doing their jobs and saying this to their kids. I think it is a very personal and emotional thing for President Obama. I'm thankful that somehow these students are hearing this.

My dd came home with a note to sign yes or no to watch the president speak to the kids. I was dumbfounded. Why would I not allow my child to hear the president speak. George Bush did it in 1990 and no one said boo!
Then I start hearing all the hoopla about how he is going to be putting some subliminal messages in his speech and he's going to brain wash the kids to socialistic and nazi ways. If it wasn't so sad, I'd laugh.
The only ones brainwashed are the people camplaining about what they think rather than the the truth.
I saw some woman crying on the news, how she couldn't send her dd to school today because she couldn't let her dd listen what the president was going to say. Nuts!
Where is the respect? I have been voting for over 30 years and only twice did the man i voted for get into office. I don't go crying about it. We're all Americans, this is the way our nation works. The majority vote wins.
Suck it up and live with it.

The thing I don't understand, is that if people are TRULY TRULY afraid that the country is turning into a socialist nation, that the president is involved in all these conspiracies, and that all your rights are being taken away, and the children are all being brainwashed and indoctrinated, why the heck are you not immigrating and trying to get the hell out? If I truly believed that all of that was happening in Canada I would be getting off the grid and trying to get out of the country.

Because no matter what is going on in our country, we are still Americans. I didn't like the way it was being run with Bush in office, but I would not have left. Now, I might if it goes south horribly wrong. Might being a huge key word there. Our country has gone through worse than we are right now. Backing out is not an option, IMO.

But I am assuming you are not one of the ones who thinks that Obama is secretly trying to turn the entire country into a communist/socialist nation and bringing about the New World Order and taking away the guns and ammo from everyone and creating youth brigades and civilian armies.

HA! Well, Bush scared me way more than Obama is right now. I have some bones to pick with Obama, but not like I did with Bush and his "brainwashers". We'll see how I feel in a year or two. I vote Democrat, but I hold every POTUS to the same standard.

Anyone remember what Bush said:
"If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator."
Can you imagine if Obama said this or said "communist" and "leader" instead?

I thought that was wrong to say when Bush was president, I think that wrong to say now. It's only 4-8 years. As StillMe said, it's my country and I'll do what I can to put it where it should be, I'd not be helping anything by fleeing my country. It's my duty to stay and work for it to become better rather than running over the border.

Our school wasn't allowed to watch it today. The librarian recorded it and we're waiting to hear from administration if we'll be allowed to show it to the students later this week.

I thought it was a nice speech and it was exactly what I thought it would be. I wonder what all the hysterical "socialism indoctrination" screamers are saying now? I know they changed the wording on the lesson plan but his speech wasn't changed from the original. The speech made all the people freaking out look like idiots in my opinion.

Its like book banning. Whats the message being sent?
"Ohhh this guy has so much crazy power and we are terrified to let you hear his scarry secret words that are so upsetting that we just can't expose you to it! Sooooo horrible that we need to skip class or sue or schools or go and protest these words!"
Sounds like they are giving his words a lot more power than they want them to have.
It is also kind of like drugs.
If you do marijuana you will over dose and your grades will fall and you will flunk out of school and loose all your friends and family and end up on the street.
Then the kid tries it and goes..Wow. They lied about that. I wonder what else they lied about.
So what happens when some older students become intrigued about these crazy powerful words and decide to go investigate for themselves and discover, wow, thats what all the fuss was about? Clearly my parents don't know what they are talking about.

I'm going to share something cute, my 5-year old said "A'rock Obama wants us to be good so we can stay out of the Alone Table." I guess for a 5-year old that is pretty much the message she got, to be good!

It would have been hilarious if the parents of kids in schools that didn't allow it to be shown had kept their kids home so that they could watch it live.

6 out of 10 of my students were out today... it never occurred to me that might be the reason why. I doubt it had anything to do with most of their absences, but maybe one or two of them.

That's a good damn question. I really wish all those freaks would get the hell out of here. I don't want them trying to brain wash my kids into being paranoid, racist, homophobes.

In their defence, I know a few who are not racist or homophobic. I won't comment on the paranoid ;)

Has it been reported that he changed his speech? With the information that is currently available, yes, we can accurately assume the speech wasn't changed. If it was, Republicans would have been on that like flies on shit. I'm sure it doesn't stop the conspiracy theorists though. I can just hear those that got in a tizzy about this saying, "Well you know Susie Q, just imagine what he would have said if we hadn't stood up to protect our precious babies from his socialist indoctrination!!!11!!" Idiots, the lot of them. Don't know much about Glen Beck but from that clip, he looks like an idiot too.

I thought it was a nice speech. My girls are on intercession right now so they did not see it at school but I read it and I think it was great. DH and I wanted to read it first and we will then let my girls read it. I am going to save it for when dd3 is old enough because I really believe in what he had to say.
