We went camping in New Hampshire over the weekend and I saw lots and lots of what seemed to be webs, but huge ones on the trees. They looked like they were spun like cones and they were everywhere.

Does anyone know what they are?

My first guess is Gypsy Moths.

No problem. If you looked around you probably also saw purple things hanging in the trees. Those are moth catchers. Gypsy Moths have done a lot of tree damage.

Besides Gypsy Moths we have been battling Emerald Ash Bores too.

:).
I found a disclaimer that said that if the webs are white it's not Gypsy moth and the webs I saw were white... turns out they are Fall Webworm - another moth, which are a pest but not harming anything.

hmmm, interesting. We usually have a problem with Gypsy moths around here, but typically the webs are formed in the spring, and we have a lot less this year. But in one area, I now see a whole bunch I never saw before. I wonder if they are fall webworm.

I don't know what they mean by white though. I'm sure I know what gyspy moths nests look like, and I would call them white.

Well, I think I just learned something new. It seems gypsy moths do not do those nests, they are fall webworms.

Still_me, look at the name of your link. It says fall webworm. Gypsy moths lay eggs on the side of trees or other things, they don't do those nests.

Although why do I always see those nests start in the spring if they are called fall webworm? hmmmm
