Hello,

My baby is 7 months already andd the sitter asked me the other day if it was possible to buy the bigger bottles since my son is drinking 2 bags in one feeding. I told her that I would get back with her on that. I don't really want to buy the big bottles because I barely make enough milk for the little 5oz bottles let alone the bigger bottles.

A breastfed baby does not need more than 5oz at a time. Personally, I think 5oz is too much. A babies breastmilk intake does not increase with age like it does with a formula fed baby. Be very careful that your sitter is not overfeeding your baby. This can lead to premature weaning.

My DD never drank more than 4oz at a time and I never needed the larger bottles. I also always used the slowest flow nipples so that it wouldn't be so easy to overfeed her. Here's a couple of good links that might be of interest to you.

If you do switch to anything else I would consider a sippy cup of some kind.

My mother definitely overfed my baby, it is pretty easy to do. No problems with weaning though, if anything I see no end in sight at 22 months! ;)

Smaller bottles mean there is less waste and as whitness mentioned, more than 5 oz at one time is probably too much.

Yep, I agree with Whitness. My husband bottlefed EBM to our son when I worked nights, up until he was about 15 months old, and he never took more than 5 oz. at a time too. Usually it was more like 4 oz.
