from oh, maybe 20 years ago. I'm hoping somebody else remembers this guy.
I am looking for a song I heard in high school in church. It was piano arrangement of "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring" combined with "Blessed Assurance". Beautiful medley.
The performer's first name was David, and from what I remember, he was a sort of traveling performer, making the rounds of churches and such, playing various arrangements that combined classical music with hymns.
I haven't heard this in years - like 15 or 20 years, yet I can still hear it in my head and it was absolutely beautiful, and I would really love to get a recording of it ( the guy sold cassette tapes after his performances) . I want my daughter to hear it and possibly learn to play it.
I would also love to get the sheet music for it if that's even available.

I think the guy went to Liberty University. Why I remember that but not the guy's last name, IDK. My filing system is faulty.

I don't know the guy you're talking about, but googling "David piano music jesu" turned up a bunch of hits for at least two different davids. And there was free piano music available for some easy arrangements of "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring".
So even if it's not the one you're looking for, it might be worth a listen.
Frankly, the medley you describe is the kind of thing I play all the time without really paying attention to sheet music. It isn't terribly hard to fool around with hymns/chorales and meld them into other things. And it's pleasant, which is why I do it.
Playing four-part hymns is a basic musician skill that pays off big, and this is part of why it is important. Once you can play well enough to screw around a little, the world is your musical oyster.

Thanks SM, I'll look and see if anything looks familiar.
I don't understand piano and have very little music theory knowledge.. I love to hear it; my absolutely favorite music is a piano solo.
I can't get this particular piece out of my head..I guess it really made an impact on me if it is still stuck in my brain from so long ago, lol. I can hear every note in my head - I can remember the whole piece, and it's vivid..I just don't have the musical ability to pick it out or play it.
Stuff like this makes me nuts. That guy sold lots of tapes, surely somebody somewhere knows who I am talking about.
I should hunt out Baptist yardsales.

You know, "pleasant" is an huge understatement. It's incredibly beauitiful to hear someone take two pieces of music and mix them together. I am amazed at people who can do things like that with music.

Maybe him?

ETA: Just As I Am is one of my favorite songs ever. He does it beautifully.
ETA2: I'm listening to him as I get ready to go to the store. He is amazing, IMO. Even if this isn't the guy you are looking for, he might be inspiring to her.
