This month was "apple" themed for DD's homeschool. We made our trip to the orchard, and we have already made Applesauce, dried sugar/cinnamon apple slices, and juice. We have also had some yummy cider. DD is begging to have a allergy friendly apple pie.

I have my allergy free crust ready to go. I need the recipie for the stuff to go in the pie! Must be dairy, (I can sub if your recipie has butter) and nutmeg free. I think those are the only two "traditional" apple pie ingredients that we have to avoid. But share your normal recipies and I can modify as needed.

NOTE: DD wants apple pie, NOT apple crisp. This will be her first ever apple pie!

TIA

I dug around and found my Granny's Brown Bag Apple Pie recipie that I think I can modify. 3girls2love I will post that for you later.

Ok thanks. I am not good at baking but I like doing it from time to time.

I use cinnamon and nutmeg in my apple pie you could try replacing the nutmeg with a touch of clove, I also replace the white suger with brown.

This is the only apple pie recipe I will use.

I agree with using clove instead of nutmeg.

TFS Still me! Sounds really close to the one granny sent me, except you bake hers in a bag.

We have never tried clove, and we have a allergist appointment soon, so I hate to try something new and have to medicate, but Iwill keep it in mind for next time!

For those that want a sweeter topping than just a plain crust on top. Mix a cup of brown sugar, a cup of flour and about 1/4-1/2 cup of butter until it's crumbly and sprinkle on top. So yummy!! I made a strawberry pie yesterday with it and it was delicious.

Totally. Crumbly toppings are the only way to go, imo.

I perfer to do crumb tops when I run short on time. gluten free flours can be a pain to roll out smooth and I must take my time.

allergy free apple pie + SCORE! YAY! The kids and DH loved it, and I did do a crumbly top, but used white sugar and Truely dairy free margirine that is safe for us otherwise (which we just found like a week ago!) I did not see the brown sugar topping untill the pie was done, but I am sooo doing that next time.
